“QUIEEEETTTTTT!!!” Too many of the little ponies were speaking at once. Yes, they were the offspring of his dearest friends, but yeesh. Rainbow Dash's and Pinkie's kids had joined the club, along with a few more newcomers, and frankly, the place was getting a little out of control. Hopefully his loud dragon bellow had quieted them. Hopefully it had not given them all heart attacks.
Once the dust had settled, Spike began speaking in a normal tone again.
“...Yes, I'm afraid the Nightmares are very real. I know it sounds like just an Old Pony's Tale, but they exist....
“As far as anypony can remember, the first one was Nightmare Moon. Nopony knows how it happened, but one day, Princess Luna, overcome by jealousy for her sister, became possessed by a mysterious entity known as a Nightmare. After nearly causing Equestria to be forever night, Nightmare Moon was banished for 1,000 years...
But you all already probably know that.”
“I did!”
“...Anyway. What was strange was that when Nightmare Moon was defeated..by your parents and the Elements of Harmony, no less... Princess Luna became herself again, and the evil spirit had gone as soon as it had come.
This drove Twilight Sparkle nearly crazy with trying to figure out what, exactly, it was that had possessed her. After long nights studying with Owlicious and myself, she stumbled across a very old book...older, perhaps, than Princess Celestia herself. I remember it being extremely tattered and hard to read..it was almost like it was in a different language... but from what Twilight could make from it, it seems that Nightmares are much older than we think. Also...I remember something else, but... it's preposterous....there could never be more than six. How could they have defeated Nightmare Moon otherwise?”
The dragon had babbled on, suddenly mumbling to himself.
“Anyway. I don't know how reliable a book could be that talked about there being eight Elements of Harmony... the very idea is ridiculous!”
He huffed a little, some green smoke puffing from his nostrils.
“After her research though, Twilight began acting....strange. Around the time that she had you...” He nodded in Stargazer's direction. “She was just... different. It was like Discord all over again. Finally, one day I woke up, and she was just gone. The same day, Pinkie, Dash, AJ, Fluttershy and....and....” He paused, attempting to keep composure. “Rarity. All of them. They were gone. Ponies frantically searched all of Equestria for them. The Princess herself sent out a special team of ponies to track them down, but they had vanished.
Then, Canterlot was attacked. But, you already know that, since I'm sure you read the Intro. This post is getting too long. But..There are six new Nightmares...and, well, with their names...and their attacks....
I believe they're your mothers.”

Sugar Craze Sugar Craze felt her heart nearly quit when the dragon roared, and spent the first part of the lecture trying to remember how to breathe. Once she did, she was stunned to hear the dragon mention another name that haunted her dreams far more than Nightmares.
Discord.
The draconequis had more than once come to her in dreams, telling her to embrace her true nature, to stop living like a boring old Earth pony and have a little fun. He had even showed her all the destructive power she was capable of, fully realized, turning the orderly Ponyville she dreamt of into a sprawling metropolis of entropy. The dreams made her wake up in a cold sweat, determined to never use her powers unless she had no choice. The night terrors had come more often as of late…
There was a loud crash from outside, breaking Sugar Craze out of her reverie. “Somepony! Anypony! Help!!! ”
“… She’s here… “

Terra had been listening quietly as she stood beside Feather Tang, furiously scribbling notes onto her notepad. But the pencil dropped from her mouth the moment that she heard a loud crash outside.
"W-what was that?" She asked, moving closer to Feather Tang and looking at him.

Corn Silk
Ugh, why wasn’t anypony doing anything? Corn Silk pushed through the small crowd of ponies to the door and ran outside. Most of the ponies in the area were fleeing, but Corn Silk rushed towards the disturbance.
A stallion was still in the square, in the midst of hanging a string of lights. “Lamp Light! What’s goin’ on?” Corn Silk waited, but the stallion did not reply or move. Impatient, she tapped him on the back. Instead of warm fur, her hoof met cold crystal. This wasn’t Lamp Light, but a statue of him. The resemblance was uncanny though… and who would make such an expensive statue in the shape of a pony putting up lights?
Corn Silk heard a light tap of hooves behind her and whirled around.
“Admiring my work?” The mare was adorned in bejeweled armor. Something about her felt… off. Corn Silk scowled.
“Whaddja do t’Lamp Light?”
“I only made him beautiful… though... such a drab color. My efforts were wasted, it seems.” The mare looked her over greedily. “Such lovely green eyes… they’d certainly be worth keeping…”
Corn Silk backed away as the mare’s horn began to glow.

Yikes...please don't banish me to the moon. D: With all the young ponies talking over one another, the room had descended into chaos. The roar jolted him out of his daze of deep thought. Feather Tang had finally been able to relax his assumption of danger. At least, danger of the dragon. Even though this was a stranger embracing the tales of nightmare as truth, he was starting to wonder himself if it could not all be true after all. It’d been said once that all legends (or rumors) held within them some measure of truth. And well- he was taken off guard by the final statement. “Mah…..ma?” he managed to ask, softly and haltingly. He remembered her only vaguely now, time having etched away what he did have of that part of his foalhood. He unconsciously leaned slightly into Terra for reassurance of them both.
Yet again, he was snatched back into the real world when a crash emitted from outside. A crash…and the sound of panicked voices. There was always the possibility that it was just some sort of cruel Nightmare Night joke…no, that wasn’t possible. Even he knew the falsity of too much optimism. He wanted to ask who was “she” or really have any sort of plan. Of course, his cousin, impulsive as ever, took out any chance of his making a plan. She dove headlong into the unknown, whatever terror it was out there. Forgetting the need for a plan, he ran into the night to follow her. First, though, taking advantage of his being the eldest (except for Terra[?]), he gave the order ”Y’all stay here, ware it’s safe.”
He didn’t see the statue until much too late, preoccupied by Corn Silk facing down an armored mare. Something about her gave off the aura of a diseased soul or something, something twisted. An actual Nightmare? The stranger readied a beam of magical energy and calling her name, he surged directly between it and the terrified filly. He let out an involuntary cry of immense pain as his wing was struck, becoming stiff and heavy as if it were being petrified.

Corn Silk
Corn Silk saw the light coming and prepared for the worst, but an unexpected shield in the form of her cousin blocked her. He cried out in pain and went down. His wing… it was now a wing-shaped blue crystal. Even as she watched, the crystal began spreading towards the rest of his body. The bejeweled mare laughed. “Well, I suppose some sapphires will do nicely as well…”
Corn Silk panicked. All she could think of was when the trees back home got a rotten branch, they'd cut it off before the rot could spread. “Sorry, Feather…” She raised her small, powerful hooves and brought them down hard on the wing. The crystal part shattered off, but the blight no longer spread. Corn Silk glared at the mare.
“Yer gonna pay fer that, y’witch!” Corn Silk charged forward, but her small body was completely ineffective as a missile, and she was rebounded. The mare sniffed disdainfully.
“So uncouth… you remind me of an annoying old friend of mine…”

"FEATHER TANG!" Terra shouted as she watched his wing begin to crystalize, though Corn Silk had managed to break the disease off before she could react, and she raced outside, kneeling down beside him.
"Feather...a-are you ok?" She looked sadly at the bit that was left of his wing, slowly standing up to face the armoured mare. "Who do you think you are?!" she shouted.

Honey Gold Honey Gold watched his cousins rush out into the dark night in search of the crashing noise. Feather had said to stay put… but the other pegasus went after him, and surely whatever was making that noise was better than an dragon… right?
He got a running start and launched himself skyward, looking down on Ponyville. There, there were his cousins! He swooped down, then froze when he saw the mare. Something about him filled him with terror but also… familiarity. He had seen this mare when he was younger… but that didn’t matter now! Feather’s wing lay on the ground, and the smirk on her lips was all the confirmation he needed. Raising his wings as intimidating as he could, he tried to shield his fallen cousin.
“C-corn Silk, Miz Skies… kindly get Feather Tang away…” His eyes had locked the mare’s never wavering.
“How dare you take my prize, insolent foal?!”
“How dare I…? how dare YOU! How dare you attack all these innocent ponies?!” The mare seemed frozen in surprise. “Who do you think you are?! Apologize and change them back right now!”
His burst of confidence wilted, and he looked down bashfully. “If… if that’s ok…”

Red Velvet was one of the first ponies out after Corn Silk and Feather Tang. Something was very, very wrong in Ponyville.
“L...Lamplight!!!” Upon seeing the bejeweled mare next to his old crystallized friend, Red Velvet's good humor vanished and he began to see....red. There was no time for apologies! What was Honey Gold thinking?
Charging straight at the gorgeous enemy with no regard for his own safety, he head-butted her right in her glimmering chest plate.
Nightmare Gem was thrown backwards, almost landing in a puddle of mud behind her. “OUWCH! Such rudeness! You shall regret treating a lady such as myself with such uncouth...ness!”
Her eyes narrowed, and her horn began to glow.
“So, you little ponies want a fight with Nightmare Gem, eh?” She chuckled dangerously, aiming her spell directly at Honey Gold...

“S..Spike! What should we do?!”
Watching the commotion outside the Tree House, Stargazer stood fearfully next to the big dragon. Her magic might help...but, she usually only used it for simple activities like turning book pages and assembling telescopes. Never had she had to fight anyone in peaceful Ponyville. No, it would be best if she analyzed the situation first before doing anything rash.
“Is that one of the...the Nightmares?”
Looking up at Spike, she noticed the dragon's entire demeanor had changed. When explaining the Nightmare legend to them, he had been somber, mysterious, and wise sounding... now, though, he looked almost defeated.
“It can't be....Not..not her...” His voice caught in his throat. His eyes were filled with sadness and longing. “After all this time... you finally come back....and like this.”
“S..Spike?”
His scaly shoulders began to shake, and his eyes filled with green flame.
“NOOOOOO!!!!”
Stargazer watched in frozen horror as the adult dragon charged through the Tree House wall, smashing through shelves of books and the wooden wall itself as he flung his entire body outside into the fray. He bellowed, silencing any of the ponies that had been speaking.
“RARITY!”
Her horn lost its glow. For just a moment, Nightmare Gem was distracted by the sight of something she had not seen in quite some time.
“You...”
"You know, no pony's called me that in a long, long time..."

OOC/Announcement:
In case you hadn't already noticed, or were not sure, characters that are not owned by a certain person (Spike, Rarity, Lamplight, etc.) are open to ANYONE for posting. The only rule: you at least ATTEMPT to write in their voice. I understand that not everyone is a screenwriter for FiM (I certainly am not!) but as long as you don't do anything completely out of character (making Rarity sound like a redneck, or something) you should be fine biggrin
This isn't directed at anyone, and everypony is doing great with it so far, so keep it up! If you're worried or intimidated by it, don't be! As long as you try, we'll be able to tell and it'll be fine!

Sugar Craze Sugar Craze could see the action vaguely from the library, but she was too frightened to move a muscle. What good was she against a big, scary, magic-using unicorn? Sure, she had a little magic, but she’d never used it for more than unburning food. Not only that, this mare was pretty strong looking, and she was pudgy and weak. She… she…
But if something happened to her friends, she’d never get over it. Ever. The Apples were the only friends she had, excepting Red Velvet. She had to do something, even if just cause a distraction so they could get away.
“Hey! L-leave them alone!” She surged forward and rammed into the mare’s side. Her larger size knocked the mare off-balance.

Stargazer watched the scene unfold with a mixture of uncertainty and terror. Her friends were in trouble, and she, the most studious pony in Ponyville, couldn't do a thing.
Her eyes darted wildly around. There had to be something... But there was nothing out there but a bunch of toppled books and splintered treehouse wall.
Then... something sparkled.
She only saw it for a moment, something silvery and shiny sticking out from underneath a tattered leather book. It seemed to call to her. Trotting slowly, as if hypnotized, over to the object--- somewhat out of curiosity, but mainly because she was so drawn to it.
Suddenly, the area burst with a lavender light. Stargazer felt her horn glow, a force more powerful than herself controlling it. She watched in awe as the object rose, by itself, from underneath the book. Even more surprisingly, it floated over to her and clasped itself around her neck. It was...a necklace? But extremely bulky, and embellished with a large, book shaped amulet. Strangely enough...it almost looked just like her cutie mark....
Her eyes filled with the light, and sparks flew around her...

Corn Silk
Corn Silk didn’t like all this talking that was going on. But when Sugar Craze barreled into the white unicorn mare, she saw a shot to win. Grabbing the string of lights that Lamp Light had been hanging, she ran forward and began tying the mare’s long, slim legs together in a tangled mass. She was not as good at this as her mother had supposedly been, but it’d have to do for now.
Then, suddenly, there was a huge flash of light from the library. Corn Silk jumped a foot into the air, thinking maybe the dragon had set the place ablaze, but the light was not green, it was white. Giving the cord a last yank, she raced over to where her cousin was lying on the ground, taking up a defensive position. Sugar Craze finally shook off her dizziness and looked at the building.
“An element!” she yelped, then looked confused. “I… I dunno why I said that… it just popped into my head!”

Spike inhaled sharply as the young filly lassoed their attacker. He knew what the mare...his old flame...was doing was wrong, and that she had to be stopped, but he hoped she wouldn't be hurt. It was irrational. She had hurt so many people already, but he had loved her once...
Squeezing his eyes shut, images floated through his head. The sparkling bowtie. The way she looked at him. Working so hard to set the fashion show up with Hoity Toity. Helping her around the boutique. Trying to give her everyting she wanted. The special blue gem, saved just for her. Her generosity and grace. The way she talked. The way her mane curled so perfectly. More memories. Sharing donuts after the ruined Gala. Hunting gems with her. Falling from the mountain, thinking it was the last time he would see her, the words catching in his throat...
He loved her. He still did. Small pools welled up at the corners of his eyes. Desperate, he called out to her, trying to reach her through whatever terrible curse she was under...
“Rarity, please! Snap out of it!...I.... I.. Lo...”
The dragon's words were cut off by the blinding flash of light.
The necklace around young Stargazer's neck was something Spike had only seen a few times, more than most ponies ever saw.
Sugar Craze was right. It was an Element.
But how was that even possible? There were only six, and they were securely locked away at the palace in Canterlot.
But this one was not Kindness, or Generosity, or Loyalty, Honesty, Laughter...or even Magic. It was completely new.
He knew Twilight had been up to something before she disappeared. Something big. Maybe it was why she disappeared..
But was it even possible to create another Element of Harmony?
If anypony could do it though, it was Twilight. Smartest pony he ever knew....
Spike decided to stop reminiscing before he got all teary-eyed again.
“S...Stargazer!” He didn't know if she could hear him, although he was pretty sure. “Aim it...Aim it at Rari---er, the Nightmare!”
Apparently she could hear him, in whatever powerful state she was in. The unicorn angled herself towards the opponent, her horn lighting up even brighter.
Suddenly, Spike heard a deafening cracking sound. He looked on in wonder as the armor surrounding the Nightmare version of Rarity cracked straight down the middle. Gems were split and shattered, sending glittering shards all over the scene.
The armor crashed to the ground, and the pony inside was swept up into a silvery swirly tornado.
Then it dropped her. No armor, no weapons....just a bare, white, scared looking unicorn with perfectly curled mane.
