...that will turn your photos into cross-stitch patterns for free. I decided to take advantage of it and designed a gigantic three-part piece mainly for my boyfriend (although I like the subject matter too).
Here's the sad part. I priced supplies, and it's looking like it'll cost around $200 to make. But I expect it'll take somewhere around a year to complete.
Think that's too expensive for one project, or does the length it'll take to complete balance it out?

Depends on you really - How much do you want to do it (as in will you complete it, or spend the money and then not finish it); Do you have the time to invest to get it done?; Do you have the money to purchase everything needed? (You may want to check around at different shops, since prices can vary quite a bit. I have actually purchased some embroidery/cross stitch items at garage sales, for next to nothing); If it is that big, you probably would want to get all the supplies now, since dye lots for floss, etc. vary just enough that if you find you need more of one particular one in several months, it may not be QUITE the same color... I wish you luck in it, and be sure to post pics as you go - sounds beautiful!

Another option: you said you have designed it as a three-part piece - how much would the supplies be per part? You could complete one part, then get the supplies for the next part, work on it...etc.

The two end pieces would probably be around $80-85 apiece because they're huge and require over 100 skeins of floss each. The entire thing will be 5 feet long and 2 feet high.
As to how much I want to do it, I'm practically dying to. If only to say I have a set of giant handmade Castlevania tapestries, essentially. xD I don't have the money at the moment, but as soon as my job starts, it shouldn't be long before I can afford it. And working from home leaves me with plenty of time to spend on it, as soon as I finish the 3 pieces I more or less have deadlines on. ._____.
