A letter from a stranger arrives at your doorstep-
Lord Changeling, Congradulation on finding your Reliquiant. You have been given a most wonderful gift. As the new Guardian of Opal, I leave you with some information that might aid you in the exploration of your new responsibility, I wish you all the luck and joy. ~Owner of the Restful Relic Inn
Mythology- The Hindu legend tells of a woman desired by three gods at the same time, and whom the Eternal changed into a magic cloud. In order to recognize her, Brahma endowed her with the colour of the azure, Shiva tainted her with fiery red, and Vishnu gave her the splendour of the sun; then the Eternal gave her consistance again in the shape of an opal. Another legend says that the opal is born from the sacrifice of a young woman who hurled herself in the funerary pyre of her lover in stead of the legitimate wife, whose death was demanded by Hindu rites.

Stone This is Fiona as I first found her. The sparkling glitter of her multi-hued form is sort of what caught my eye. I'm a sucker for shinies. xp Child Fiona as a child. She was given the little arm band by her father when she became a child, as a sort of 'welcome' present. The bow was given to her by Eclipse in the hopes of encouraging her to pursue at least one form of defense. She's very delicate appearing and fragil in truth, which makes her life somewhat dangerouse since she is a child full of adventerouse spirit and easily hurt.Plushi Fi! AWWW! Isn't it cute? A little plushi of Fiona that was made for her! Fiona -loves- this plushi and spends a lot of time useing it for her sneack tackle attacks....sometimes I worry about that girl... Fi Picca A portrait of Fiona! Isn't it just the most darling thing you've ever seen!? This really brings out her cute innocent side doesn't it? Heh...but beware what lurks beneath that innocent and nieave expression!

 Fiona's Big Room Fiona's bedroom! Seeing as how she is so small, I got her a dollhouse to live in. So it's kinda like...it's her house inside her room, or something like that sweatdrop Fiona's first Pet This little Jelly was a pet given to Fiona after LC learned she loved water so much.

As Fiona meets my other wards I will add a small blip about them here and her feelings towards the and vice versa.LC Name: Lord Changeling (LC) Relationship: Guardian (Father) Species: Changeling His View: Opal is a adoreable and beautiful stone! Her View: LC is overly attentive and very eager to please me. I like him. Blip on Lord Changeling: LC is the Lord of a small piece of land. He is the shop owner of Castaway Dreams as well and works hard to find the homeless Dreams people to look after them. LC is also a college student who love the theater. As a Changeling, LC has the ability to shift his form to take on the aspects and minor abilities of a handful of creatures. He is of the Fey race but a orphan/outcast. LC has minor mystical abilities, his spell casting is pretty much limited to cantrips, and he lacks the strength to be a good fighter. Overly bookish, shy, and meek, LC tries to put on a strong front, but is easily cowed by more powerful people. LC's love interst (Protector) is Within. Triodanis Name: Triodanis Perfoliata (Danis) Relationship: Sibling (Ward of LC) Species: Nymphlora His View: Fiona is a child, and should be treated with patcience, but she has way too much energy. Her View: He's weird and has no face, but he knows a lot about being pretty. Blip on Danis: Danis is one of four Nymphlora that live in LC's garden. Quiet and rather vain, he spends a lot of time sunning himself by the fish pond and brushing his hair. Of all the Nymphlora, he alone was the one LC 'trusted' to ask to teach Fiona about plants and gardens since she seems interested in them. Though he answers Fiona's questions and is slowly imparting his knowledge of plants to her, he also spends half his time chatting about beauty tips, how to care for ones skin, hair, and nails with Fiona...which seems to have put him on good terms with Fiona in a way. Lapiz Name: Lapiz Relationship: Sibling (Ward of LC) Species: Dragolin His View: Fiona is very pretty and should be hidden away Her View: He's a freak and keeps trying to carry me into his dark hole!!!! Blip on Lapiz: Fiona has only had one encounter with Lapiz and wants to keep it that way. On a chance meeting in the garden, Lapiz chatted with Fiona for a few moments. After learning she had been 'born' from a opal, the small cat sized dragon snapped her up in hismouth..and carried her off to his lair. Deposting her on a pile of 'found' semi prescious items from around the keep, he tried to calm Fiona's crying by nuzzleing her. It wasn't until Eclipse showed up and scolded the small dragon for scaring the young girl that he allowed Eclipse to take Fiona from his hoard. Not that Eclipse needed his permission of course... Eclipse Name: Eclipse Relationship: Sibling (Ward of LC) Species: Dark Tomyu His View: Fiona is a young child full of promise and hope. Her View: He's my brother and loves me as much as father...and he needs me. Blip on Eclipse: Eclipse is a Dark Tomyu, and as such he is viewed with suspicion by everyone in LC's household. The only people willing to give Eclipse any shred of trust is LC and Fiona. Even before Fiona was 'born' Eclipse showed some interest in the reliquent. Learning what the final catalyst was for LC, he has stepped in as a major influence in Fiona's life. Teacher of most acedemic studies and weapons, he watchs over Fiona like a hawk. There is hardly a hour in a day that passes that he is not lurking around her. LC seems to almost encourage this relationship and has appointed Eclipse as Fiona's main mentor. There are many in LC's household that do not approve of the Dark Tomyu's association with the impressionable Fiona. His past history is something that keeps being brought up as proof that the Dark Tomyu is most likely only up to no good or will lead Fiona astray. Any misbehaviours on her part tend to be blamed solely on him.Eclipse, on a whole, avoids the rest of the household and holds to a cold indifference concerning anyone from LC's or Withins house.

In a journal kept at the bedside, LC keeps a hand written 'report' as it were of facts and information about Opals to share with Fiona nightly. The elegant, if somewhat messy, handwriting details things LC feels Fiona would like to, and should know about herself. Every day, for a hour or so, LC takes time out of his busy schedual solely to look up, read, and record knowledge to share with his prescious Fiona.Entry One Preservation and Handling of OpalsOpal is a hydrated silica (SiO2.nH2O) with a water content within the mineral structure. Precious Opal contains 6% - 10% water and consists of small silica spheres arranged in an orderly three dimensional structure. It is created by percolating water in or near sedimentary volcanic ash that dissolves silica of shells, bones and woods, “fossilizing” them into opal. Opal is not a particularly hard stone so care must be taken to preserve the natural beauty of this gem Opal is a "living" stone, which means it must be protected from heat and detergents that "dry" the gem. Opals develop crazing if they are allowed to dry out. Heat treatment is catastrophic!! In addition to cracking, loss of water causes loss of iridescence. Care must be taken when polishing and setting opals. Despite their hardness, they are prone to crazing and cracking, and loss of water content causes a noticeable loss of iridescence. To prevent this, opals are normally stored in moist cotton wool or cloth until it is time to work with them. Sometimes, an opal that has lost its opalescence may be "rejuvenated" by rehydrating the stone with water or special oils, but this may only temporarily improve the stone's appearance. Entry 2 Historical Cultures Views of the Opal
Throughout history, opal has been regarded as a stone of good fortune. In ancient times, precious opal was included among the noble gems; it was believed that the gem possessed magical properties.
The Romans established opal as a precious gemstone, obtaining their supplies from traders in the Middle East. They believed the opal was a combination of the beauty of all precious stones. They ranked opal second only to emeralds, and carried opal as a good luck charm or talisman because it was believed that like the rainbow, opal brought its owner good fortune. In the days when Rome spread her legions across Europe and Africa, a Roman Senator by the name of Nonius opted for exile rather than sell his valuable opal to Marc Antony who wanted to give it to his famous lover Cleopatra.
Eastern peoples also dealt very heavily in this precious stone, which was believed to bring luck and to enhance psychic abilities.
Centuries later, Shakespeare referred to opal as "a miracle" and the "Queen of Gems". Elizabethans prized opal as highly as the diamond for its brilliant colors and flashes of fire. Indeed, opal was a lucky stone. Entry 3 Mystical Attributes and Knowledge
A gem of psychic awareness - and of the moon and water - opal can increase everything we feel as well as helping the assimilation of emotion.
It is like a full moon that draws hidden emotions to the surface, causing great discomfort, and then flings it back in our face (think of the word "lunatic" derived from the French lune, meaning "moon").
Opals were believed to help women giving birth to let go and relax.
In the Middle Ages blonde maidens valued opal necklaces, as they believed they helped their hair keep its colour.
Opals help the body assimilate proteins.
Some stories suggest that the opal is an unlucky stone. This belief originated in the 19th century in a story by Sir Walter Scott. This is usually because it breaks easily and needs to be kept separate from the rest of your jewellery.
Because it is a water stone, the opal likes being bathed in cold water.
Opals vary in colour from translucent cream to fiery black and blue. They usually reflect rainbow colours and were sometimes used to aid prophecy and divination. Entry4 Opal's Bad Reputation
During the late 18th and 19th centuries opal fell out of favor, as it was associated with pestilence, famine and the fall of monarchies.
During the decimation of Europe by the Black Death, it was rumored that an opal worn by a patient was aflame with color right up to the point of death, and then lost its brilliance after the wearer died. The superstitious thought the opal had some bearing on the victim's destiny. However, it did not occur to them that the changes in the appearance of the opal was due to the drastic rise and fall of the patient's temperature during their fever and subsequent death.
In a tale of ill luck related to a monarchy, it is told that in the 19th century, King Alfonso XII of Spain had received an opal ring from a vengeful Contesse he had previously courted. The King presented the ring to his wife, who had greatly admired it, and shortly thereafter she died mysteriously. A succession of wearers in the royal family followed the Queen's untimely end. Finally, the King then placed the opal ring on his own finger and in a little time his life also ended. However, it must be pointed out that during this time cholera was raging throughout Spain-over 100,000 people died of it and it attacked all classes. The reputation of the opal as a charm against cholera must have been known to the King, who used a talisman that acted fatally instead of beneficially. Entry 5 Scientific Opal Facts
Most opal is more than 60 million years old and generally dates back to the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
It is found near the earth's surface in areas where ancient geothermal hot springs once flowed. The minerals bubbled up from beneath the surface of the earth and slowly, over the centuries, lined the walls of cracks, vents and underground cavities in the bedrock. Most opal is found where geothermal hot springs dried up during seasonal periods of rainfall and extended dry periods
The most striking quality of opal is its ability to refract and reflect specific wavelengths of light. In fact, the term "opalescence" was coined to describe this phenomenon. The size and spacing of the amorphous spheres of silica within the stone refracts specific wavelengths of light; each sphere refracting a single, pure spectral color much like the individual microscopic droplets of water in a rainbow. The interplay of these pure wavelengths of light gives opal its unique visual appeal, and makes it one of the most sought-after gemstones in the world. Entry 6 Opal Lore
High quality opal is more valuable than diamond; up to $20,000 per carat.
Some people think the opal is bad luck when worn if it is not your birthstone. This is not true. The story was started by Sir Walter Scott in his novel Anne of Gierstein, in which the heroine of the novel has her life force caught in the beautiful opal she wears and she dies when the fire in the opal is extinguished.
In ancient times opal was accepted as a symbol of faithfulness and confidence.
The name "opal;" is derived from the Latin word opalus, meaning seeing jewel.
The Arabs believed that opals fell from heaven in flashes of lightning, and that's how they received their fiery color.
Opals are very powerful in ritual magic. Since a quality opal contains every color of every other birthstone, it can be used or charged with all the energies and powers of the other stones combined and can be used in place of any birthstone for spells, rituals or other magical needs. Opals have been linked to invisibility and astral projection. and have been used to recall past lives (each color supposedly represents a past life).
It has reputed healing properties, especially to increase mental capacities such as creative imagination and other unused powers of the mind.
The white opal, when used in rituals on the full moon night, is said to bring the moon goddesses' powers to full fruition in the practitioner.
Opal was also treasured in the Middle Ages and was called ophthalmios, or "eye stone," due to a widespread belief that it was beneficial to eyesight. Blonde women wore opal necklaces to protect their hair from losing its color.
A beautiful opal called the orphanus was set in the crown of the Holy Roman Emperor. It was described "as though pure white snow flashed and sparked with the color of bright ruddy wine, and was overcome by this radiance."
Opals are also set in the crown jewels of France.
Napoleon gave Josephine a beautiful opal with brilliant red flashed called "The burning of Troy," making her his.

 Bananna Miori The sunstone reliquient. She was the first that Fiona had met after emergeing from her stone state. It had been something of a awkwards meeting, seeing as how Miori had almost tripped over Fiona as she was sitting in the middle of the floor. Fiona's first impression of her was a mopey girl. She isn't certain if she likes her or not yet. Though their first meeting didn't go so well, as Fiona had not yet learned that letting others know she could hear secrets about them was bad. Licorice Daikenkai Tall, dark...scary. Fiona's first impression of Dai was one that left her comparing him to her brother Eclipse. Eloquant and reserved, he struck her as a man in complete control of himself. She knows of his ailment and what it is through Miori's thoughts, but has yet to see anything that would make her think he is crazy. Quite the opposite. With his glowing red eyes and long pointed tail he does appear to be a powerful and intimidating figure..and sort of...cute... Cat Litter Ophelia Fiona's meeting of this little girl was anything but pleasent. After being told that 'Rufus' did not like her, Fiona lashed out in the way most hurt children do. Physically pushing Ophelia off her chair, Fiona ran off before she could get scolded. Fiona's thoughts reguarding this girl are severly unpleasent, though she keeps her ill wishes to herself and her journal about her. Likeing nothing more then to see her dead corpse hanging in a spider web, Fiona has no intentions of ever making up with Ophelia, or being civil to her in any manner...as long as she can get away with it that is. Pillow Blazen Fiona's first reaction upon seeing Blazen was to pet his furry goat legs. Somewhat envious of his hooves, Fiona already likes this boy as much as she does Torin. During their play she accidently hurt Blazen though, and since then she has not been her usual cheery self. Concern over loseing her new friend worries her and most likely won't be calmed until she see's him again. Balloon Aria Fiona briefly met Aria around the same time she met Toshi. While Fiona envies Aria her power to float, and cast images of herself about, it was by watching Aria and talking to Toshi that Fiona learned she may have a second power. Toshiro

Finola, meaning white haired... *LC had been at this for hours. It had started off fun at first. Reading the names and quoteing each meaning. After a hour it lost it's entertainment value. By the time he had hit the D names it had grown downright tedious, and all through E LC kept hoping something soon would sopark some sort of reaction from the Opal he cradled gently in his palm. Once they had begun the F's, he feared they'd get all the way through the book and the shining opal wouldn't have found anything at all that appealed to it!*
Finvarra, this one has no meaning. Fiona, meaning white or fair. Fio...eh?
*He had nearly kept droning on, so accustomed to not getting a response from the opal that he had needed to do a double take*
Fiona? You...you like that name? Thats the one you want? Thank the GODS! I mean...it's beautiful, and I'm glad you finally heard one you liked. *But all the same, LC was grateful it was over. Closeing the book, he took a glance at the clock on the wall and groaned. It was terribly late!*
It's time for bed Fiona. *He murmured to the gem as he closed his hand about it gently* We'll get better aquainted tomorrow.
*Cradleing the gemstone, he climbed the stairs to his room. So much for cleaning out his backpack...ah well...cracking open his fingers to take a small peek at the gemstone. Naming the opal, though vexing, had been more interesting anyways.*

*LC had been...over excited. Finding Fiona had been one of the most exciteing things to have happened to him since he had first me Within! He had lain down in bed, and despite being so tired after the name search, he soon realized he could not sleep! Riseing, he cast a glance over towards where he had lain Fiona. Since he hadn't yet had a chance to get her a room of her own, he had placed her in a empty jewely box on some cotton and then set her on the windowsill so she could look at the stars and mood. Well..he knew she hadn't eyes but...thats definatly where he'd wanna sleep if he was in a new place by himself. It wasn't like he could take her to bed! He only hoped Lapiz wouldn't come across her.*
*Shrugging on his bathrobe and snuggling his feet into a pair of shaggy purple kitten slippers, LC made his way back down to the library. The door to his bedroom was securely locked so he knew Fiona would be safe. Collecting a small selection of books on gemstones, he curled up in one of the poofy velvet chairs, cracked open a book, and began to read*
(See Research Entry 1 for results of LC's studying)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*It was the wee hours of the morning now, and LC was actually tired finally. He had learned a bit about opals, and boy was he glad! He hadn't known how delicate they were! Or how sensitive! If he had done something foolish, he could have really hurt his poor Fiona! Well, now he knew, and now he would be careful with her. Smileing wearily to himself, he re-entered his bedroom, and crossed over to whisper softly to the opal relenquint*
Hello prescious. I'm back. I learned some very interesting things tonight. I promise to tell you first thing when I wake up, but right now, I need to go and rest. You sleep well Fiona. I love you.
*The day had been spent with a anxious energy hovering around him. No mannter what he did or how interesting it was, his mind kept drifting back to Opal. He had left her in her little box on the windowsill, but had been very careful to pack soft and wet cotton around her before he left. He kept worrying that the cotton would be all dried out by the time he got home.*
*When he was finally able to leave and return home...despite how badly he wanted to go right home, he didn't. First, he made a stop off at Agatha's. The jewelry shop seemed the perfect place to go for what he wanted after all, and Agatha did indeed have what he needed! A small bottle of oil and a soft silk cloth for polishing jewelry. With glee LC happily traded the extra amount of gold for the special bottle of oil, and he moved on to his next stop.*
*He needed something to keep Opal in that was better then a lousy necklace box! Something special....Something he couldn't buy right now, but he definatly could order! Darting into another shop, LC explained to the shop keeper what he wanted, andfter a bit of unpleasent haggleing, he managed to convince the fellow to dtart work on his special gift for opal. This done, he quickly returned home*
*Opal was still where he had left her, thankfully! The cotton in her box was pretty dry, but not bone dry. Aw, he knew he was going a little overboard with this whole protection thing..but Opals, as far as he had read, were quite delicate!*
Hello Opal, I'm home. Did you miss me prescious? *He murmured to Fiona as he gently picked up her box. Carrying her to his desk, he could already feel the warm fuzzy feeling of happiness from the stone* Yeah, I thought a lot about you too today. Did you like sitting in the window?
*Odd...from the sense he got from her, Opal didn't seem to really enjoy the view of the garden and all the plants.* Well, we'll see if there is some other place you'd like to be when I go off to work later. Okay?
*After waiting to give Fiona a chance to express emotionally how she felt about this, and he was pretty certain she agreed with him, LC sat himself down and pulled the little glass bottle from his pocket*
Do you know what this is Fiona? *No, of course she didn't. So LC wasn't surprised at all with the questioning feeling he got from her*
It's a bottle of special oil from the middle east. It's used in the treatment of opals, to protect them from the oils on humans hands and to help protect them from drying out. It's supposed to help brighten your sparkle too! I got it from the jewelr's, because they use it on their opal jewelry all the time.
*LC waited a moment for the surprise to fade from Fiona. She definatly had a interested sense about her now!*
here, I even got a silk cloth from Agatha to apply it to you. *LC proudly let the white silk square flutter in the air. Well now! He definatly sensed approval from Opal over that!* Shall I try it?
*Yes...he felt a sort of permission granted sensation come from Fiona. Opening the bottle, he inhaled the sweet scent of the oil, and gently dabbed a drop of the clear liquid onto the scarf. Being cafreful to pick Fiona up with the cloth, he began to softly rub the oiled portion of the cloth against her stone surface*
We don't have to do this too often. Just once in a while. We'll also have to keep you hydrated. You know it's funny...your just a stone, but it's almost as if you were already alive! *Alive! Ah! That reminded him* I studied a little about Opals last night... (LC in essence informs Fiona of the Research information of Entry 1)
*LC came to realize, at some point in the day, that Fiona was going to eventually stop being a stone. It happened as he watched Cloudy and Vi tussle out in the garden. He really doubted Fiona would be happy to live out in the garden. As delicate and prescious as she was...he knew he had to give her a room of her own. Carrying her gently through the house he found a room that seemed to suit her taste very well. The walls had a dark wood work base, with a wood floor, and a elegant wall paper for the upper half. After senseing the approval from his little prescious, he set to work cleaning the room out. For this he left Fiona in his bedroom, laying in the small box with the moist cotton surrounding her.*
*Cleaning out the room had been easy. All that was needed was a quick sweep and mop, the windows opened to air the room out, and the walls quickly washed down. Standing in the room, a few other things occured to LC. The room was gigantic! All the Reli's that he had seen thus far were tiny things. Fiona wouldn't be able to properly use a room of this size with regular furniture!*
*The answer was easily presented to him of course. All he had to do was think of where he could get tiny furniture, aside from magically shrinking it that is! Dollmakers often sold dollhouses! The trip to Gambino was quick, but the time spent shopping there wasnt. LC wanted to get the very best for Fiona! Eventually he managed to find the most bloody expensive dollhouse in all of Gambino. With a little haggleing, he managed to get the price to drop a few coins, and with the promise of repeat busniness...and sending out an order for some very specific household itty's to be made, LC carried his treasure back to his keep and deposited it in the center of the room.*
*Looking about, he was struck with how utterly absurb the little dollhouse looked in the middle of the room. However...Fiona didn't much like a lot of cluttering decorations..so he left it. Now all he had to do was have a tiny door drilled into the big door, and a good strong lock put on it to keep some of his other wards out!*
(See Fiona's Belongings for a image of her itty dollhouse in her Big Room! )
