Life among the Moons had been peaceful for too long, in some ways. An extremely isolated herd, on an isolated island, in the middle of expanse of sea that seemed insurmountable. Sharp cliffs and fierce rocks to one side, impenetrable woods over to another... No real place of wide open freedom or opportunity that she could perceive as a form of escape.

The Moons were one herd, one family. The same pale faces, upraised beneath the same tall trees, having the same interaction with the wolf packs or the goat herds that were their nearest neighbors. Admiring the strange colors and patterns that seemed to come so readily to the rainbow hued parrots, the incredibly patterned wolves and the goats or even the tapirs that the wolves herded.

Nu'ha was born a rather unremarkable white filly, with similarly indistinguishable white siblings, the product of two unmarked white parents. There were others in the herd that were similarly white, with pale blue eyes, only differentiating in how they could get different familiar friends to help them style their manes and tails. Paint and dye only went so far, but some of the younger Moons gradually went this route, indulging in dye and ornamentation to differentiate themselves from their kin. Then the strange variations started, bold colors and surprise markings, strange features in terms of wings and fins and other such seemingly spontaneous mutations or changes. Tricks of their bloodline or of passing mischievous spirits, who could say? But the fact remained, slowly the Moons were changing.

Nu'ha wanted change too...

Like most nights, Nu'ha Noom waits until moon rise and then goes wandering once again. The autumn nights are rich with buzzing or chirping insects and birds, the shush-sigh of distant waves. The wolves sing hunt song from some inner coil of the Island forest, but at this hour most of the MeatCutter parrot flock has settled for the night. Their noise has ceased, but she thinks she can hear some of the goats still trotting through the brush, though perhaps it is the wolves moving their tapir flocks to other places for better feeding. Either way in the distance it sounds lively enough, hoof stock of some kind but not really the size of Moon Children? Not quite Soquili but Island inhabitants nonetheless. Larger and louder than the frogs at the fresh water sources, than the lizards and turtles that might move through the undergrowth at this hour.

It is not as prone to frost here as it is on the inner points of the island, the higher elevation where mountains rise up in sharp rock face. The parrots love it there but it is rather precarious for Soquili hooves to travail the paths into the sky, so there's not much cause for them to be up where the air goes thin and the ice rests thick most of the year. Down in the dense woods they won't see more than a hint of chill, and even then it won't be until deeper into autumn and early winter. Nothing worth worrying about just yet.

So Nu'ha watches the bright moon cast a wide glow overhead and then rises, unable to resist the urge to go wandering. She'll rest later, closer to dawn.

Nu'ha Noom spends hours meandering through the different views of the Island, beyond the influence of the Moon Children herd while everyone else is deeply asleep. It would be inaccurate to say that the world is asleep around her, for the Island seems to hum with noise and life. There are insects and birds and all manner of small animals alive and buzzing, chirping and scampering through the grass and the branches.

Likewise it would be inaccurate to say that the world is dark, even here in deep night. Beyond the expected light from the moon and the stars, in the meadows there are dancing lights from wandering fireflies, and rolling over the ocean there is shimmering light in the waves from creatures she cannot see beyond a glow like sunken stars.

The bright flash of feathers and scales visible in daylight is not present now, but there are colors of a different kind. Washed pale by moonlight, the vibrant grass is silver, the blossoms all shades of white, yellow, all manner of pastel colors washed through into twilight by the fall of night. All the vibrant, tropical shades may be sleeping but there is still any number of beautiful things to be seen here in the dark.

"Our home is quite a pretty place, no one would be able to truthfully say otherwise." Nu'ha murmurs to herself, pale eyes catching on the way streaks of glimmering markings go bolting through the underbrush. She doesn't know if it is the goats or the wolves, they do not stop to chat and are not close enough to scent.... But either way, their colors cut sharply through the night. A distant kind of beauty.

So then, why are you not happy here?

The full moon has slowly risen up over the island again, climbing the highest peaks and casting stark shadows over the cliffs that the Meat Cutter parrots call home. Nu'ha doesn't dare cross the radiantly colored flock, sticks to the neutral places, the wild paths through the rocks that will not earn her ire nor lead her where she should not go. The climbs are relatively easy, gradual, with loose rock and shale underfoot that does not seem too inclined to shift. Perhaps if it did she'd merely skate right back down again, find herself on her rump at the base of the mountains and feel like it was a sign from somewhere that there is where she should stay.

But the climb is easy, too easy... Compelling her to repeat it again and again. Not even the buffeting winds at this height will dissuade her. She scales the rocky heights and stands below the heavy hanging orb, gazing up at it with bright eyes. She feels like the milky wash of light reflects off of her own coat, casting her in a similar glow. Like for a moment they are the only two, beings of light separated by great distance witnessed by further far off stars.

"Hello, Heavenly Sister." Nu'ha greets her politely, flicking her tail and shifting lightly on her hooves. "I am here again, to talk to you. I hope it is no trouble, but it is something of your fault because you are so serene a listener."

She gives a faint smile, weak and a little watery, tilting her head contemplatively. "I think I will be going away, and soon. It does not feel like home here anymore, if in fact it ever did."

Having scaled to her high point and started the conversation, Nu'ha Noom shifts slightly on her hooves, casting a contemplatively glance at her surroundings as she mulls over the whole situation. The moon remains silent overhead, listening patiently, she rather would like to think. Still, no point in standing on ceremony or letting the whole of the matter drag on.

"It is not a decision to make lightly, considering the rest of my life hinges on it. I think you know that as well as I do... And I promise you that I am not taking it as anything less than with the utmost sincerity." She continued after a few moments of thoughtful silence. It was just her and the moon, after all, her secrets and thoughts would be safe even as they were shared. "I find myself distant enough from the rest of your children that I do not really feel like I am among them. Watching the different generations rise and expand has been very exciting, but I feel like perhaps what I am supposed to find is elsewhere. Like there is a life I should be living, but it is not here... So I will go in search of it."

After all, fate needs a helping hoof now and then, does she not? Idle hooves made no progress. But Nu'ha's hooves could only stay so active in this limited landscape. They were too familiar with this place. She needed new places to tread, she she would go in search of them.

"That does not mean we will not still speak. I know I will be able to see and find you wherever I end up. I hope you will keep a watchful eye on me, in my adventures. It would mean a lot to know you were still looking out."
