It's a normal day, you're going about your business; Work, School, caring for family, whatever it is you're doing routinely. The weatherman seems a bit off about the weather today, but it's not too off, from being bright and sunny to slightly foggy. How accurate is the weather channel anyways?
It's only when you step through a door at noon that something goes...very wrong.
The fog outside seems to have come inside the doorway, wispy tendrils wrapping around you and unceremoniously yanking you into total darkness. It doesn't last long, and before you know it, you've been deposited onto hard ground, your only source of a light a single bonfire, blazing brightly.
All around you are other ordinary people just like you, from all different parts of the world and walks of life, it seems. There is chatter, some languages you cannot understand, others you can and can listen in to the queries, the theories, the fright and terror. Everyone present is otherwise looking as confused as you feel.
"Welcome." A deep, booming voice resonates around you, coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. "It looks like there are enough of you now. Excellent, they have been in dire need of enrichment." chuckling mirthfully, the voice heaves a sigh. "It has been ages since I have been able to fulfill their needs fully...."
Before the group, several pathways between the trees open up. All of them lead to darkness, not giving you a clue as to what lies beyond your limited vision. The bonfire dims, and all chatter halts. In the silence, a twig snaps, followed by laughter. Bone-chilling, malicious laughter.
"Good lu~uck!" The booming voice sing-songs almost playfully.
Looks like it's time to run. Or Fight. Or hide.
It may not matter in the end.
