Trier still wasn’t completely sure that she wanted to do this. Going to her Wonder just sounded so…high in effort, and she just wasn’t feeling it but…it was the day she had designated to do so and she wasn’t going to…let herself down. Even if she didn’t…whatever. Semantics. She was a Squire now so it really made sense that she should.
Right now, she was in the park a few blocks away from home and lay on the playground, looking up at what she could see of the stars. There was a small backpack resting next to her filled with a few bottles of water and a flashlight.
Maybe this wouldn’t be as difficult or horrible or lonely as she was assuming, and maybe it it was a dark, dank and dismal place…she could simply get up there, find the magical wonderful signet ring and leave, no harm done.
But what if this was all a fools errand? What if her signet ring wasn’t easy to find. What if her Wonder was as dank and dismal as Necros? Should she have asked someone to go up with her? It was too much to think about and she huffed, sitting upright, then laying back down, then sitting upright again. No. She was going to do this thing, and it was going to be taken care of and all would be well. Or else.
Okay. Stop thinking about it, and just do it. Just go up there. Find the ring, and leave. Trier sat up and pulled the backpack onto her back and hopped to her feet. Okay, the new problem was how to get there, and after worrying for a good half minute, she closed her eyes, concentrating.
After a few more moments of silence, words began to fill her mind and she murmured.
“I pledge my life and loyalty to Saturn, and to Trier. I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine.”
The air changed, and Trier kept her eyes closed for the moment. The pledge was. A little cultish feeling but…clearly it had worked. Clearly she was somewhere else, and it was cool, a little damp feeling. Drawing in a breath, Trier opened her eyes and blinked slowly, looking around.
It was gray, the sky heavy with clouds, and a large, elaborate building rose in front of her. It looked almost like a castle, with towers and turrets…it was amazing.
There was a rumble of thunder and Trier glanced up at the clouds with distrust and after a moment’s hesitation, she made her way into the building. The closest doors to her were large, heavy wood and she pushed first, and then pulled on the large iron handle. The door opened with a loud groan and Trier slipped inside.
It was filthy. Beautiful, but absolutely filthy. And she wrinkled her nose at the smell of what was unmistakably some kind of decay.
It was fine. She could clean. She could come back and work on it at some point.
The room was large, filled with long wooden seats. It looked like a church. Was this huge building just a giant cathedral? Interesting. Maybe she would have to really do some research on what Triar was…
She made her way to the front of the large chapel and saw a glint of something on the railing that surrounded the…altar? It looked like an altar, but she reached for whatever it was, wincing at the dust that coated her fingers, and saw that it was a small, silver ring.
It felt warm and she gave a small, satisfied smile. This had to be it. The magical, wonderful signet ring that she had been told about, and carefully, she withdrew a piece of purple notebook paper from her backpack and scribbled a small note.
Found it.. Folding the note, she wrote a plain, Blarney. On top of it and pressed the top of the ring, where a flower embracing the symbol of Saturn adorned the ring, with a small purple stone glinting.
There. Mission accomplished.
Next time she came up, she would bring cleaning products. And a lot of them.
