Tempesti rarely found herself unsettled by thunderstorms. Even after the Cantankerous Hollow, she’d quickly returned to the rhythm in the use of her own powers. The fact that the lightning her harpies brought wasn’t purple probably contribute to her continuing comfort, but she knew, or at least she was reasonably certain, that a color change wouldn’t be enough to deter her from her work.

Even so, there was something unnervingly familiar in the reports of repeated lightning strikes on people, strikes resulting in little to no lasting harm to their victims. She would never complain about people surviving whatever the sky unleashed on them but that didn’t stop her eyes from wandering upward to where their angry serpentine friend lashed around its prison. Didn’t stop her mind from spending quiet moments meandering toward the Dark Star either. The senshi hugged herself a bit despite the heat, the memory of that nerve shattering cold streaking through body her before she could stop it. Though maybe it would be better to get those thoughts done with before they could make unwanted guest appearances in her dreams.

Tempesti rolled her shoulders, fretting about it wouldn’t do a thing to slow whatever progress that thing was making. For now however, Chaos was something making its presence very loudly known to anyone who would listen.

The first hint of lightning storms had been enough to send prickles of alarm up Ilmare's spine. The rumors of people being struck, but not harmed increased those feelings. A lot. As she paced through the streets, she had to fight with herself to keep from looking upwards into the sky. She knew that if she did, her eyes would be immediately drawn to the spot where the Hallow was imprisoned. She didn't want to see it. Or think about it.

It wasn't that she wanted to forget necessarily... but when she was already fretting about so much, she didn't want the added stress. That wasn't horribly selfish, was it? She didn't think so, but it was hard to tell sometimes.

The faint, but persistant icy clarity that meant Order was nearby wormed its way into her mind and she paused. This aura was strong. She only had a moment to decide whether to flee or try to talk and she was torn. At that moment, the universe appeared to take the choice from her in the form of a series of rapid lightnings strikes, one of which hit her, causing her to shriek in shock. Falling back onto her a**, she sat there, blinking furiously to try and clear her vision.

As though on cue, the sensation of a Chaos energy signature interrupted Tempesti’s anxious musings. Before she could react the sound of a scream tore through the air and her legs were moving, driven by the pounding of her heart as she looked frantically for its source, the heels of her boots clicking loudly against the pavement with each step toward the sound. Rounding a corner, she was surprised to see a familiar face. She’d made Sailor Ilmarë’s acquaintance the previous winter, and while it looked as though she didn’t sustain any long term injuries from the attack of that strange icy wolf, she was seemingly the latest target of one of those unsettling lightning strikes.

Quickly dropping into a crouch to bring herself to the other senshi’s level, she spoke “Ilmarë? Can you hear me?” From what Tempesti understood, whatever the nature of the electricity that rained from the sky, it didn’t cause any permanent damage. At least not as far as she knew, but that didn’t mean that she was willing to remain uncertain that this trend continued, particularly considering the fact that one of its victims sat before her, apparently stunned by the strike. “It’s Tempesti, we met a few months ago. Try to hold still. Does anything hurt?” She kept her voice soft and even, not wanting to further alarm her. If the senshi of harpies was the praying sort, she might have appealed to some higher power to give her a sign that this was not a portent of another cataclysmic invasion. She might not bear any physical scars from the times the lightning had coursed through her own body, but that did nothing to alleviate the dread that accompanied the memories.

Scrubbing at her watering eyes, Ilmare was aware that the Order aura was practically on her and through the buzzing in her ears, she could faintly hear words. But only one word mattered. Tempesti. This was a… well. Maybe not exactly friend, but not an active antagonist. Someone she could trust at any rate. Lowering her hands from her face, she squinted and nodded as Tempesti came into clearer view. The buzzing was annoying, but she could hear enough to at least respond appropriately.

It was something.

“Lightning just hit me,” she answered in a soft, almost amused voice. “Everything kind of hurts right now. But, if what you meant was am I injured… I don’t think so? Can’t tell yet.”

She was one big ache and her skin felt tingly. Like she’d just stuck her fingers into the electrical socket. But if the other senshi wanted her to stay still while they assessed, she was more than happy to oblige. Carefully, she straightened out her arms and legs, gently stretching. So far so good.

“I think I’m gonna need your help getting up. My tailbone is not happy right now. And my back feels a little burny. Can you see if I scraped myself up?” She didn’t remember her back hitting the ground, but it could have. Or that was where lightning had actually made contact. Whichever it was, she was incredibly grateful to have Tempesti there to help and talk to. “Weird weather we’re having, huh?”

Her words sounded careless, but there was an edge there that Tempesti would probably recognize. She really didn’t want these storms to be a sign of the Hallow getting loose. Or something worse on the horizon.

Tempesti offered a reassuring smile, the other woman was shaken enough without making her carry her own worries. Especially after she’d suffered a lightning strike. The senshi knew from unfortunate experience just how overwhelming that could be.

“Hang on, let me take a look.”

A sharp intake of breath betrayed Tempesti’s alarm at the biting familiarity of the monster writhing on the Chaos senshi’s back. The one that had briefly made its home on her own skin had been still, the only life it could boast provided by whatever her body deigned to share with it. To see one moving drew a pulsing thread of ice and fire up the back of her neck.

She inhaled deeply, reluctantly preparing herself to deliver what she could only expect would be profoundly unwelcome news. “I…I’m going to take a video.” Steadying her shaking hands, she summoned her phone from her subspace, quickly recording the unsettling motion before handing it over to Ilmarë. “I’ve seen things like this before and it sounds like you’re…familiar with it yourself…This…the moving…is new to me.”

She held out a hand, hoping that the contact would at the very least offer Ilmarë what comfort she could.

Nodding, Ilmare closed her eyes briefly and pulled her hair out of the way, content to sit there and let Tempesti check her over. Or she would have been if she hadn’t heard the other woman’s sharp intake of breath. Eyes flying open, she held still only through sheer force of will. Was she burned worse than she thought? All the rumors she’d heard had been very clear in stating that no one had been hurt!

Even more confusing was Tempesti’s reluctantly delivered admission that video footage was needed. “Please tell me that this is just so you and your Order friends can take turns taking digs at the idiot Corrupt,” she said, trying to sound normal and failing miserably. “What the hell is going on back there that you need video footage of?” She might have continued in this vein had Tempesti not spoken up and mentioned moving. The way the other talked, it sounded like she’d acquired one of those damned snaky burn scars. But moving? It was moving?!? Swallowing down bile, Ilmare took the offered hand and squeezed. Then she steeled herself.

“I need you to stand back and behind me,” she said as she got to her feet, her face looking as if she was being led to a gallows. “The last time I dealt with anyone who’d gotten hit and left with one of those scars was a chibi friend of mine. And I watched her magic absolutely shred a ******** tree. I am going to test something and I don’t want you caught in it.”

She knew her magic. It wasn’t the most explosive or impressive from an offensive standpoint. But she remembered how shaken Saiph had been after her demonstration. If her own magic was going to be haywire, she was reasonably certain that she’d be able to feel it once summoned. She was not about to risk exploding someone’s brain via extreme hallucinogens. Calling up her strongest magic, Ilmare watched and waited and analyzed how she felt. Nothing looked different. Nothing felt different. Saiph’s magic had come roaring out of her. But this? This was completely normal. Her magic had not been affected.

Sagging a little, she dismissed the magic, watching it fade before turning back to Tempesti. “Okay, I’m not more of a hazard than I was when we started this conversation. How much video do you need? And are you sure things were moving independently of me?”

Tempesti couldn’t exactly fault Ilmarë for thinking it was a joke of some sort, to be perfectly honest she wished it was a hoax, even if it wasn’t the sort of prank she would play on someone.

“I’m sorry to have to scare you, but I think honesty is the best way to go here.” She could only imagine how unsettled the other senshi had to be knowing that was on her back. During the…other storm last year I got marked too. It wasn’t moving, but it did fade after a few hours. Hopefully this will be like that. The scar fading, I mean. I would rather not repeat the rest of that experience.”

Grateful that Ilmarë preferred not to catch her in whatever magic she intended to test, Tempesti stepped backward, watching curiously until she finished.

“I actually got a video when I was looking before, I hope you don’t mind.” It was difficult to blame her for missing that, getting struck by lightning was a harrowing enough experience on its own and adding the possibility of more hungry monsters on the horizon could only compound the issue. “Here.” The senshi held her phone out once more, the strange scar moving about on the screen.

"Oh no, I would prefer honesty," Ilmare was quick to reassure the other senshi. "Honesty is great. This is just... I don't think there are enough swears in the English language to fully encompass all of this." It was a poor attempt at humor, but she was trying. It seemed like every season was determined to outdo the others when it came to Destiny City Bullshit.

When offered the video, Ilmare nodded to show that she had no hard feelings to being filmed before she could say yes. And then, she watched, face going white as yep! The scar was absolutely moving independently of herself. Closing her eyes for a moment, the corrupt senshi swallowed hard, took a couple very deep breaths and did her best to calm her roiling gut.

"That makes sense," she finally said. "I didn't see Saiph's scar when we were all up there," she pointed vaguely towards the prison, "fighting. And I don't remember her magic being terrifying at that point. And that wasn't that big a span of time..."

She appeared to be considering soemthing, her eyes going distant for a moment before snapping back to Tempesti and managing to crinkle in a smile. A faint smile, but a smile nonetheless. "I'm not going to ask for the video. I would rather my higher ups didn't know about any of this. But you're going to share with your side, right? Is it worth trying to meet in a few days to see if it's still there or not?"

She'd realized that she couldn't feel the movement and that was enough to calm her nerves a little. But if the Hallow was coming back, they'd need information, right? She'd happily play the role of Order's guinea pig if it meant making sure that this was more fluke than portent.

"So, what do you think? Give it like... three days and meet back here to check?"
