Quote:
The Lilypads (16) : You can find them in lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and waterways throughout Destiny City. Giant lilypads--some large enough to support the weight of a person--appear overnight. You can try, if you want. It's become a local trend, and pictures are all over social media--of people looking for the largest lilypads, or the smallest ones they can stand on. You'd think the unnatural bubbling around the lilypads would be enough of a sign not to mess with them, but sometimes people need to learn the hard way. Beneath the lilypads lurk strange frog-like creatures that regard nearly everything as prey. The largest of them are roughly the size and shape of a bean bag chair, but they can be as small as a fist. Their broad heads are crowned with lilypads that serve as natural camouflage, allowing them to hide among the floating vegetation until they strike. They move with startling speed and can launch themselves impressive distances with powerful kicks. Long, whip-like tongues lash out to snatch prey, while thick mucus-like saliva can cling to skin, clothing, and even immobilize unfortunate victims. Their skin carries a toxic coating that can cause irritation on contact. The creatures announce themselves with a deep croak that sounds uncannily like a large bell being rung just by your ears. Unfortunately, for anyone that was respecting nature, these strange creatures are aggressive and will also attack without provocation, often attempting to drive even innocent bystanders away from the water's edge. However, if sufficiently threatened, they may retreat into the water. Once submerged, they become impossible to track.

Note: If you choose to encounter one of these frog-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The creature does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. All toxic and mucus can be washed away, but effects may persist for a few hours after this encounter. The creature cannot be killed and will always evade lethal blows. While it is rare to find multiple large creatures in the same vicinity, smaller creatures often cluster together, or may be found with a larger one. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

Of all the things Ariadne thought might happen to her when she decided to take a little walk as a Senshi, getting assaulted by a frog was nowhere on the list. She'd paused at the pond to take it in and enjoy, and had been captivated by curiosity about the strangely oversized lilypads; they were clearly unnatural, and she was pretty sure she'd seen them on social media. She couldn't exactly film a TikTok while she was powered up (but ooh, maybe she could set up a second account.....that was an interesting possibility to consider at a later date) but she could at least gently reach out and touch one.

Apparently that was enough, because suddenly, there was a loud, croaking sound that almost felt like church bells right by her ear (totally startling as she was nowhere near and did not attend a church) creature leaping at her from under the lilypad.

It had jumped her, sending her scrambling backwards, but apparently chasing her away wasn't the goal--its tongue lashed out, wrapping around her and pulling her back towards the water.

"Help!" She dug her heels in, hoping that she could keep it from dragging her any farther, but the thing was strong.

Bélénos hummed to herself as she walked around a park, drifting close to one of the ponds she knew was nearby. Mirrorwraiths were scattered about, seeking energy to take home with them, and she liked watching them all appear and run off, then come back, fat with energy. Especially in the twilight. They sparkled so prettily in the light of dusk.

The cry for help, however, had her head on a swivel immediately, seeking whoever needed it. There was definitely the aura of another Dark Mirror near to her, and she sprinted towards it. There were no other powered auras, so hopefully it was just a particularly annoying youma or something she beat to death with with her heels.

When she skidded to a stop near the pond, though...

"Well that's not a youma," she said observantly. Springing into action, she took off her heels, wielded them in her hands, and came upon the side of the large frog, beating the s**t out of it with the sharper points of her heels.

"Drop her!" she ordered, perhaps uselessly, but it made her feel better.

At least, whatever other bullshit was going on, Ariadne could always count on her fellow Dark Mirrors to turn up and help. Whether it was the end of the ******** world or just an obnoxious monster in a local pond, there they were, ready to assist. This one, she didn't know the name of, but she did recognize from said end of the world battle, so that was nice to see.

Apparently, the frog did not love getting smacked with shoes, because it did indeed let Ariadne go, and she dropped to the ground with an unhappy little thump. Her skin felt tingly and her legs wouldn't quite come back under her, as if the frog's saliva had somehow left her immobile, which was great, and also gross.

"Be careful! I don't know what else they can do!" She called out to the other Senshi, hoping that the creature didn't have any other nasty tricks up its....sleeve did not feel like the right word. Under its lilypad hat, maybe?

As she considered her metaphors, the frog-thing launched itself at Belenos, aiming to headbutt her away from it.

Bélénos began to retreat the moment the frog dropped her new Dark Mirror friend. Already on the move, it was easy to dodge the frog as it leapt towards her
and she dove for Ariadne.

"Come on," she said, helping the senshi to her feet. "Hopes and Determination!"

Her magic activated, the pear scent swirling around them, and she hoped it would be enough to assist Ariadne in fighting off whatever weird poisonous mucous the frog had on it.

Noir Songbird
The sweet scent of pears fills the area. Allies (regardless of faction) will feel bolstered and more hopeful that they can achieve their current goal. They feel revitalized, like they can manage to hang on a bit longer, and everything will be okay. They will make it so, if they must. They can do it. This lasts for 35 seconds, has 2 uses, and has a radius of 12 feet.

It was a good thing that her new friend was pulling her to her feet and appeared to have healing magic, because Ariadne was definitely struggling. The magic filling her up made it easier to stagger to her feet, and she leaned a little on her new friend as they moved away from the pond, heart pounding as she went.

The frog hovered by the edge of the pond for a long moment, like it was waiting to see if they left, before diving back into the water with a loud splash.

"Well. That was terrifying," Ariadne said, looking back and glad to see the beast gone. "Thanks. It probably would have dragged me under or something without your help."

"I was already never much of a frog person, but that thing made me hate them," Bélénos said with a little laugh. She sagged a bit with relief when she saw it sink back into the water and sighed.

"Yeah, of course. I'd save anyone from a giant monster, but like, especially someone I'm actually supposed to be allies with. That was so creepy! Like, hey, Destiny City, can we chill out with the new roulette of monsters every other season? It's so exhausting!" she rambled on, guiding Ariadne to a nearby bench. "Anyway. Nice to meet you, I'm Bélénos, Senshi of Pears!"

"Aw, I usually think frogs are kind of cute," Ariadne said. "Not when they're that big and that mean, though." She sighed, glancing back at the pond in a very disappointed sort of way. "It's sad, the lilypads are so cute....but what's under them is so evil."

At least she wasn't really injured. Explaining that she had to take days off practice because she broke her ankle getting yanked around by a frog or whatever would suck. A lot.

"I'm Ariadne of Mourningbrides, glad to meet you." She frowned a little. "We should probably give that pond some space, huh? Like, probably they were just defending their home but I also don't want to be here anymore. This is not within my definition of fun summer activities."

Bélénos paused on her way to the bench, sucking on her teeth as she looked back between the bench and the pond to gauge the distance.

"...Eugh, yeah, I don't want to stay too close to it either. I don't want to find out if I can beat it up with my high heels again," she said, making a face. "There should be a mirror nearby we can use, at least."

She hummed a bit. "Mourning brides? Like, specifically? Is this, like, uh, some kind of common experience of a bride being left at the alter 'cuz their husband died on the way to the church or something?"

"Ugh, yeah, no use risking good shoes, even if they'll come back." But they would be able to find a mirror, Ariadne was sure.

The question about her sphere made her laugh, though. "No, no, not like that--they're a type of flower." She tapped the one that sat on the ribbon under her bust. "Very pretty! But nothing to do with people."

"...Ohhh, I'm an idiot," she said, laughing at herself. "Flowers. That makes a lot more sense. Sorry, that was pretty silly of me."

Privately, Bélénos thought that flowers shouldn't be named s**t like "mourning brides" anyway, but it wasn't like she was in charge of that.
