Dear Eclispe,

On the behalf of Lytte and myself, I congradulate you on your new ownership of Mei-Lein. You have been given a most wonderful gift. As the new Guardian of Emerald, I leave you with some information that might aid you in the exploration of your new responsibility, I wish you all the luck and joy.

~Naree, Poet of Phantasy and new Operator of the Reliquiant Shop
~Owner of the Restful Relic Inn

Emerald
such as panic, depression, and fear. Emeralds can also supposedly raise a person's intelligence, help them speak eloquently, and help them distinguish honesty from lies.
Most interestingly, emeralds are believed to enhance a person's ability to foretell the future, imbuing that person with prophetic, or clairvoyant, talents. Emeralds also enhance a person's ability to better understand their inner selves, creating a state of inner harmony between the mind and the heart, promoting a higher state of intelligence, and self-assurance in matters of love.Because the rich green color of emerald is the color of spring, the ancients prized it as the gemstone symbolizing love and rebirth.

health: Marbode, an 11 century writer, suggested that emerald improved memory and eliminated depression. Abselmus de Boot, an early 17 century philosopher, recommended the wearing of emerald to prevent epilepsy, bleeding, and panic. Emeralds are said to possess healing powers. Emeralds can cure all types of physiological ailments, including poor eyesight, diseases in the blood, dystentery, fever, and infertility.

Tech stuff:
Emerald originates from the ancient Persian word smaragdus and its derivative, the Greek word smaragdos, both of which mean "green stone." It is a member of the beryl family of gems.

Queen Cleopatra was famous for her emerald jewelry, and wore emeralds lavishly. Ancient Egyptian mummies were often buried wearing emeralds around their necks, for the green emeralds were believed to symbolize the green gardens of eternal youth. Cleopatra prized her emeralds more than any other gem. She may have dropped her pearls in her wine for Mark Anthony but she kept her emeralds for herself! The ancient emerald mines of Cleopatra, long a mystery, were discovered again a hundred years ago near the Red Sea. Some tools found in the mine were dated at 1650 B.C. but no quality emeralds were found: the mines were exhausted thousands of years ago.

Treasured for at least 4,000 years by different cultures all around the world, emerald is said to quicken the intelligence as well as the heart. legend gives its owner the gift of eloquence. One legend says that Satan lost the emerald from his crown when he fell. The emerald was shaped into a bowl which the Queen of Sheba sent to Nicodemus. Christ used the bowl at the last supper and Joseph of Arimathea used the bowl to catch blood from the cross, founding the order of the Holy Grail. The Moguls of India, including Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, loved emeralds so much they inscribed them with sacred text and wore them as talismans. Some of these sacred stones, called Mogul emeralds, can still be seen in museums and collections today.

Stone Stage
Mei-Lein was never found by me. Nay, she was given to me in good faith by another named Miori. A good, kind, and virtuouse soul who felt that Mei-Lein and I could do more then become bonded, but become close. This is she as when I first met her. Slim and dark, much like myself. I wonder what she shall become when she grows older.

Through a un-known tragic happenstance, Mei-Lein and her brother Cirru have found themselves without a guardian. Cirru was adopted by another but poor Mei-Lein was left alone. Partly left in the care of another Relic, one named Miori, Eclipse found himself drawn to the stone. Despite the fact the stone held two of his greatest fears, he felt that perhaps by bonding with the stone and raiseing it as his own child, that maybe he would be able to overcome his own fears, and find the part of himself that he knows is somehow missing.

Eclipse' Plea
"Why have you come?" Four words. So simple in their utterance, yet the answer to which proves far more complex then the being that approched Miori could possibly explain. She knew him, knew him in reality and in her dreams both. Looming three inch's over Miori, his slender body tinted in night time colors. Violet and green shining upon the curves of his frame. Purple hair of a brighter tone cascaded down his back, gathered at it's midpoint with a simple black ribbon. His long bangs curved gracefully over one eye to conceal it, but revealed the other to be of a deep green color. Upon his back a set of sharp wasp like wings, painted in the same colors of his body, were folded.

Though he had approched with no hesitation, her simple and curious words proved to be a formidable wall that caused him to come up short in step and words. "Miori..." he began. His soft voice seeming to hitch upon her name. How? How did one answer such a question? Truthfully? But with how much truth? With how much history and intent woven into his answer? A Incomplete reply would lead only to more questions. Questions that could prove harder then the first to respond to.

"You know my story...some of it. You know me...some of me. You know much, yet also know little. Were I to begin to answer your question, I would needs weave a story that would fain take days to complete." Lifting a hand to his head, he swept the long fingers through his bangs, ruffling them as Miori continued to look upon him. His gaze he did not turn away from her own, but rather he kept firmly focused upon her own eyes. The better to keep her attention, and give her patcience while he struggled to respond in a manner that would not make her think ill or low of him.

"I come to ask...of Mei-Lein. Since the time I have met her, I have thought of her much. I pray you try to understand...I...long..." Here his words failed him once more. Lifting his hands in a weak and helpless gesture, he allowed his brows to furrow slightly and his lips to turn downwards. " I..am selfish. I am...weak. Though I make no complaint, make no sign of discontent...it boils within mine heart. I seek to reach..to touch..to hold...Yet I can not. I can not open myself up to the one I desire to, for the fears that have long been seared by twisted flames ache new and old. I am a unfinshed man, a clay doll shapened yet not fired. I had possesed the hope with Fiona's birth I would have one whom to reach out and connect... One new who would learn of me as I learned of her. No fears, no aged woes to poison the air between us. No disharmony nor guilt. Yet..."

Here he paused, his left hand curling into a loose fist as he lowered his eyes to the ground away from them both. "Yet upon her birth, the most damnable of powers was to her brow laid. To see within...to know...to see the taint and the foulness I sought to never share with her. How can one be open yet closed? How can one be compassionate yet distant? It can not be. Singed though my hope was I can not let it slip away. Tenascious I may be. Too bold even am I? Mayhaps I know not when fate has played her cards. Still though..here I am...seeking to answer your sphinx riddle."

Pulling his gaze from the ground he forced his sight to return to Miori's own. The hand that he had loosely fisted he forced to go lax at his side.

"Miori...friend though you have become, a history you already have. One that I known nothing of. So too do all others here. I have not watched, I have not known, I have not spyed upon those outside my displaced home. Within I am revilied and despised. Denied I have been of my chance to form a new begining with my sister. I would ask..nay...beg...pray...kneel at your feet in humble request...to let me forge with a daughter what I have not ever felt with a female before."

Even as he spoke, true to his words Eclipse's knees bent. Falling to the floor with his hands outstretched before him, his normally smooth voice broke...cracked as he struggled to continue with words he thought never to speak aloud, much less to her. The look upon Miori's face did not cause him to stumble any more then a disspassionate face would have.

"Please...There is something...something missing in me..a part I have never known. A part that aches and longs for the void to be filled. I wouldst try anything..to make this emptiness dissappear. It haunts me, this feeling of no feeling. This place that I can not comprehend yet know..know do I that the answer lies within that which I fear. Let me be father..brother...guardian of she. She who has lost and too shall feel an ache. She that is too displaced and cursed with a void that shall not ever be filled. Let me be caretaker and protector of this one whom embodies all I fear and all I hope. I pray you Miori...let us be one complete..."

My name is Eclipse. I am, as you may see, a fey type creature. I am of the race called Tomyu, a Dark Tomyu to be exact. My species is not the most kind and friendly sorts. They are in short wicked folk who carry out such unpleasentness that I can not bring myself to even begin listing it.

To this world I was born, but I did not remain. Now that I have a ward of mine own, I have felt the need to commit to paper my past. Perhaps it is, in a way, a silent confession, a purgeing of my soul before I take on the task of raiseing a pure soul in this world. How can I think to raise a goodly and virtueous child if I have not even come clean of all my sins? It shall take me much time, but I shall strive and toil to dab out mine past with ink and pen.

"A boy. What a waste."

Twas the first words I heard. A hearld true of the path before me. I had not even become accostomed to mine limbs when I was hauled to my feet, my head spinning as I struggled to make clear sense of what my new eyes showed me.

"Get rid of him. We don't need anymore useless moths around here."

Such spite in those words. Like stinging nettle the tongue she bore darted in to pierce at my young heart. I barely remember her face, but her eyes are burned clear in my mind. Judgeing and harsh, full of repugnance and antipathy. With a hand gripped unkindly upon my arm I was dragged out of a room that held the remains of my shell, and two other darkly glistening orbs.

I was taken to the slavers market and sold without even so much as a moment of haggling. Though I was young and newborn, even then my mind was keen and sharp. I grasped quickly my surroundings and knew best to remain quiet. There were others there who bore vivid and loud testimoney to the treatment of unwanted Tomyu who knew not how to keep silent.

To spend ones first day of life locked within a cage...it is demoralizeing. For so long I had waited patciently, expectant of the day I would be free to move about. My caretakers had seemed so excited when they handled me. Stroking my orb and murmuring about the possibility of the greater glory I would bring my family. Then...oh how crule. How harsh and churlish to change all within the space of a moment! Wanted then unwanted. Accepted then denied. I could never dare say loved, for not once were those whispered words of tenderness or caring. Never had I heard a word of doteing. Yet all the same the pain that bit so deep could not have been any worse then what I felt then. Sitting with my legs tucked to my chest, my head bows to my knees listening to the weeping of others surrounding my cage. I learned much of weeping that day, and the days that followed as I was left with no food, water, or care. The slave market is a very busy place you see. There is always the flow of trade there, new beasts of burden caught and caged. Spiders, serpents, mice, and other ground dwelling creatures. Not to mention we unwanted Tomyu.

Sitting there, I finally overcame the period of stunned rejection and lifted my eyes. So much to see..can you imagin? No, I think you can not. A world of darkness to you, but much like the day to others. Still there is an oddness to this dark world. A cast of greys and blacks for me, so dull it was! So lacking in color and brightness. Never did I realize that there was color till I heard two others discussing me and my hair. A tone that was virant purple they stated, something that would catch some ladies eye they assumed. I was confused though..for my hair seemed the same shade as many others about me. It took my young mind not so long to realize there was something wrong with me. Another reason for rejection?

No, I had easily figured out then that my rejection was not based on any faults I may or may not have had. I was born a male, a boy, and it took only one glance around to see that there were no girls in the cages near mine. There were no female voices that cried out anywhere near where I could hear. I deemed to keep my defect to myself, for I had no desire to garner worse treatment then I already had. So harsh and crule this all may have seemed...but tis nothing but the start.

As I lay pen to paper once more, I find myself struggling. Not over the indescion of how to write my memories, or even if I want to. but the wuestion of 'why' do I echos in mine mind.

Why do I write this? Tis not like any shall ever discover this journal and it's contents. Tis not as though I were in silent confessing of sins and guild....is that it then? As I write this, I feel no flair of emotion. I feel no great welling inside me of grief or guilt. Tis almost as if I were writing a shopping list rather then the string of events called mine life. Oh indeed, there were foul things that have happened to me, but I bare no great resentment to the supposed villians of mine life. I feel no sadness over my rejection now. Tis naught. Naught and emptiness and hollowness. This is the question I have struggled with now. A question that remains unanswered in mine mind but it does not consume me. It just....lingers...like a spot on a garment, a snarl in ones hair. Tis there but of no great discomfort. However it's mere exsistence alone is something of a bother.

Why do I not feel the remorse I should? Why? Why do I not feel the guilt and grief that I have read of. Where is the redeeming torment? Where are the feelings in mine chest that should haunt my waking moments and damn mine sleeping periods?

I know not. Tis is troubleing only in itself...and so..I shall write on...and perhaps I shall find this lost feeling, this absence of conscious, and learn for myself how to grieve for sins...or perhaps this writing shall come to naught..and only mine child will be able to pour into this shadow the light that is to me denied....

Eclipse, Mei-Lein, and Miori
Cont. of how Eclipse gained Mei-Lein.

(Still under contstruction)

Riseing back to his feet, Eclipse kept his gaze upon Miori. The weariness in her voice was echoed true even in her posture and movements. She was tired, beseiged day long by requests for the abandoned little girl. He did not see fit to pressure her, his plea had been made, and now done...he resumed his usual cool and calm demeanor. Standing tall and patciently, he watched Miori as she clung to the prescious stone. As if it were she herself she were being begged of giving.

Her words were more to herself, a verbal admittance of her exhaustion with this task. She'd spent much time alone with the stone, and she was now having a hard time coming to terms with the fact another would be taking it away, another that she knew not the future of. Had not the little stones 'brother' passed hands not once, but twice now? Who was to say the same could not..would not...happen once more? And with this one so little and not even a being of it's own free will yet...how would this impace her growth?

"Tis not in mine nature to seek a bauble of momentary interest Miori. What I take is mine own till I see it no longer is mine own. When I pursue, it is not with the intention of one day discarding. My goals...my prizes...they are things I cling most jealousely to, and would not abandon them at mere whim."

"Mei Lein..."

Her fingers continued to stroke over the stone's smooth surface. She pressed her her nose to the emerald, almost as if she was asking the stone something, but remaining silent. Though her face was once more hidden, she let a small smile curl her lips.

"...Eclipse..."

She lifted her head and looked to the Tomyu. Her own green eyes upon his. Opening up ever so slightly, she lifted the emerald up and asked "...did you want to hold her again...?"

Eclipse was aware that the stones could somehow make their wills known. LC had often had seemingly one way conversations with Fiona in the past, and while now he did not talk as much with Luke, Eclipse was aware that luke did someonhow speak with LC. This, of course, was what he was assumeing was happening between Miori and Mei-Lein as she pressed her head so close and firm to the smooth stones surface.

At the speaking of his name, Eclipse tilted his head a little, stray strands of violt hair swayed cross his face. Lifting a hand, he gently tucked them back behind one pointed black and green ear.

"I would not be adverse to it."

Was the simple and calm reply. Lowering himself down upon his knee's, he reached his hands out expectantly and waited for the stone to be passed to him.

Passing the smooth green stone over, she watched silently. Her eyes seemed to hold interest in the Tomyu, though interest for who was a whole different story. She wasn't even certain herself who she was looking for anymore: Herself or for Mei Lein.

Whoever she was looking for, Miori knew that that Reliquiant wanted to see how the Tomyu would handle himself. The sunstone had seen him hold the stone once before, but the memory almost seemed clouded at this moment.

Eclipse's attention upon Miori ended once she slid the smooth oblong stone into his arms. Shifting so he sat crosslegged and a bit more comfortably, Eclipse proceeded to wrap his long arms about the cool green stone. Much like one would cradle a babe in swadling, so did Eclipse hold Mei-Lein. His deep green eyes flickered over the surface of the stone as he took his time to inspect her. Before when he had held her he had not been so keen on her physical apperance. He had just been interested in the novelty, and curious. Yes...quite curious. Now though, as his long fingers gently stroked down the surface of the earth green gem, he was more keenly aware of it's apperance. The fact that a living being was cocooned within this gemstone shell was...strikingly similar to his own peoples beginings. yes...he knew without a doubt it would be easy to forge a true bond witht he relic...if Miori deemed to let him.

Lifting his eyes after a moment of museing, he leveled his gaze to the Sunstones, and murmured.

"Are you then of the mind...to allow me to take her Miori?"

Her cheeks flushed as Eclipse looked to her so suddenly (or at least she felt it was quite sudden). Her pointed ears heard the words as they escaped the Tomyu's mouth, but instead she remained quiet, pursing her lips as if debating how to answer such a question.

"...well... eh..." Placing her two pointer fingers together and tapping them together oh so often, she glanced down to them and said "...it seems that Mei Lein liked you back when she initially met you... and after what you told me... I... eh..."

Once more, she quieted, though her mind completed the phrase: I think it sounds like you both need each other...

She remained quiet for a bit longer, and then looked up once more, cheeks far rosier than usual.

"...yes..."

A slow smile spread across his dark lips, and his arms grew far tighter in their cradling embrace. Holding the emerald to his chest as though somehow he would manage to push it past the flesh and right into his heart itself, he murmured.

"Mine thanks and gratitude to you Miori. If ever there was a way I couldst repay you, truely I would with no hesitation."

Looking down upon the emerald, Eclipse gently allowed his fingers to stroke the surface. A slight...vibration he felt, but very faintly, and to his ears it sounded almost...feline. A purr? No...it could not have been, so faint and short he found it easy to convince himself that he simply imagined the sound.

Temptation would have caused her to speak up in regards to her own feelings, but now was not the time, nor the place. Instead, she watched the two. She was silent for a bit, almost as if daydreaming, but then she remembered she had more to give Eclipse than just a mere stone.

"...I am certain you want all the results in regards to the stimuli she has been exposed to thus far?" Had Mei Lein been in her arms, she would have noted the short and nearly silent purr, but she hadn't even heard it, so it remained unmentioned.

Did these stone children like to be rocked? It was a curious thing now, the wondering about what a stone would like. After all, how many times in the past had a stone been used to paint a picture of unfeeling? How perfect...how utterly perfect. For he felt within the unfeeling that was contributed to stones, and if it was that this stone could feel...he knew, he just knew it would be his answer.

Lifting his head as he expirementally began to rock the stone in his arms as one would a babe in swaddling. Fixing his green eyes upon Miori, he nodded to her.

"The information would be very helpful to me, to learn of her and how to give her form. I..am eager for her to have arms to hold me back with."

Nodding her head in response, the sunstone moved towards the edge of the table which the two had been seated upon. Looking over the edge, she nodded to something which seemed to be hiding under the table.

"...hopefully you don't mind, but since I don't have all the information stored in my head... I also have Rikki here..."

Rather shortly, the feline computer leaped up onto the edge of the table farthest from Eclipse. Before Eclipse could disappear as he usually did, she nodded her head and offered a bit of a grin as she greeted him "...hello Eclipse! So you are going to be Mei Lein's guardian. That is so great!"

Walking over to her friend, Miori petted the somewhat blotched fur as she drew close enough. "...he will be needing the testing results..."

Eclipse's immediat reaction was indeed to vanish. The starled flicker within his green eyes was like a passing moth over the shineing surface. His hands tightened about the stone that he ceased to rock to the point that his dark flesh grew a paler grey. His thin lips tightened immediatly...but...he remained sitting where he was. At least until it was Rikki would so care freely call greetings to him. His joints felt stiff and resistant to unlocking as he unfolded his legs and tore one tightly gripping hand from Mei-Lein's surface so he could rise.

"Well met Rikki. Tis good to see you again. I thank you for your congradulations. I shall be endevouring to do my best to raise her well."

His voice showed no sign of trembling, and for that he was grateful. Then again...he was rather used to no betraying his emotions so much when he truely applied himself to the attempt.

"Has there truely been so great a number of tests run for Mei-Lein?"
