The dark red cord holds open the wide doors of the theatre. At last the auditions for the production of Romeo and Juliet had started. All those wishing to enter for a part were advised to play a small part in order to prove themselves worthy of the part in which they chose. In the shadows the judges waited, eager to see what talent lay within the small Reliquiants that would grace the stage.

Miori was nervous. Why do I have to be the first one to go? she thought bitterly to herself. She truly didn't mind going first, afterall, the quicker she got it over with, the quicker she could relax. Gripping onto the red velvet-like cloth with her golden hands, she said in a mutter "...well... here goes nothing!"

Walking towards the center of the stage with her eyes concentrating upon the ground so she wouldn't slip for some odd reason to the ground, she stopped only when she got to the center of the stage. Turning shyly towards the judges, who were only a blur of shadows to her, she offered her "sunny" smile and introduced herself.

"Hello! My name is Miori, and I shall be doing a piece from the balcony scene." Waiting for the okay, she then set herself to work.

Making sure to project her voice, since there was no microphone that was small enough for her to use, she began:

"Ay me!" Miori said with a daydream-like tone, bringing her hand towards her cheek and staring off to a direction other than the judges.

Continuing with her soft, daydream voice, it gradually grew a bit more demanding: "O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet."

Removing her hand from her cheek, Miori swung her fist downwards with a bit of haste. "'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague." Her voice then softened once more, as she lifted the fallen hand and looked carefully at it.

"What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part belonging to a man."

At this point, her voice began to pine for something as she pleaded to the audience "O, be some other name! What's in a name? that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, retain that dear perfection which he owes without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, and for that name which is no part of thee take all myself."

Holding her last position for merely a moment, Miori then turned to the judges and simply said "Thank you!" With that, she exited to the opposite side of the stage which she had started. Once she was finally off the stage, she nearly fell down, breathing heavily.

Daisuke walked with confidince onto the stage, his new form gave him some courage because he knew people wouldn't laugh at him at his age. He had a part in mind, Romeo, the wonderfull Romeo. Because he honestly didn't want to die in the middle of a play.

Thinking of which of the many scenes with the flashing light burning his skin he took a deep breath and began his audition. His knees were shaking slightly as he recalled all the words.

"My name is Daisuke. I would like to be Romeo, but anything you place me is fine. I will be using the balcony scene."

He got to the upper center stage and began to look amazed with a hint of curiosity making sure he added some love into his voice.
"But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun."

Making Juliet sound diffrent to bring out her name, showing she was inportaint.

"Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That thou her maid art far more fair than she:
Be not her maid, since she is envious;
Her vestal livery is but sick and green
And none but fools do wear it; cast it off.
It is my lady, O, it is my love!"

During these words he made a move to Center making sure once again that his voice was strong and when it got to 'It is my Lady, O, it is my love!' he made is voice strong and somewhat in a day dream state.

"O, that she knew she were!
She speaks yet she says nothing: what of that?
Her eye discourses; I will answer it.
I am too bold, 'tis not to me she speaks:
Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,
Having some business, do entreat her eyes
To twinkle in their spheres till they return. See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand!
O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek!"

The last part, he made it sound like he was in love, pretending Moiri was on the balcony and using the "magical if" Koyuki had been talking about. She was in theatre arts and it seemed school helped him a lot. A whole lot.

He lowerd his head, and his arms, then his body and made a bow to the judges. "Thankyou very much!" He gave another smile and trotted off the opposite side of the stage letting him self jump up and down when he got off. It was so fun, so exciting to be quoting the Romeo and Juliet and maybe actually he would have a chance. Sure Marcucio could suit him more, but Romeo felt like him right now. So in love, so trapped by it.

Daikenkai was next. He also had a confident air to him today, as well as he deserved it. "All those guys are going to be doing one of the crappiest scenes in the play!" he scoffed as he brushed his hand at the skirt he had made the previous night. Strutting onto the stage, with his legs covered by the scratchy wool-like material, he stopped at the middle of the stage.

"My name is Daikenkai. I will be performing Juliet's death scene!"

Setting himself upon the ground, so he was half lying, and half sitting up, he tilted his head down. His black hair covered his face, and his tail lay limp to his side. His voice however came out quite clear, and strangely high pitch for a boy.

"What's here? a cup, closed in my true love's hand?"

Reaching his hand towards the imagined cup, a frown came across his face. Holding onto the cup, he seemed to muse at it visually as the words dripped from his mouth:

"Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end:
O churl! drunk all, and left no friendly drop
To help me after? I will kiss thy lips;
Haply some poison yet doth hang on them,
To make die with a restorative."

Daikenkai then bent downwards to "kiss" the fallen Romeo. Once the tender moment had passed, his eyes opened slightly, revealing a bit of the reddish glow his eyes usually held. Bringing his hand to his own lips, he said clearly, yet full of sadness "Thy lips are warm."

Though the moment was tender, it was interupted by a sudden jolt of his head. His hair seemed to part, revealing the distraught look upon the red and black streaked teen's face. Panic seemed to taint his features as he looked back to the ground at his tail.

"Yea, noise? then I'll be brief. O happy dagger!"

He picked up his tail, which he had purposely let lay limp like some sort of prop, and clung his fingers to it like it was actually a dagger.

His voice now sounded determined as he declared "This is thy sheath!" With that, he jabbed his tail towards himself, though specifically aimed for his armpit so no damage would occur. Wincing a bit at the "pain," he looked softly towards the fallen "Romeo" besides him. His voice grew quieter, though he made damn sure that the judges could still hear him:

"there rust, and let me die."

With that, Daikenkai lay himself upon the ground, assumedly dead. Remaining in this pose for merely a few more seconds, he then sat himself up and nodded to the judges, letting them know he had finished.

Standing up again, he walked with complete full confidence that he had just won. He knew he would win the part of the best character within the play. No getting slain, no wussy poisoning, just pure suicide! Running a finger through his hair, he exited the stage.

Aria, having finally found a passage that she could perform with relish, hauled her props behind her as she floated through the air onto the stage area. This stupid thing is too serious. What it needs is some fun, she thought to herself.

Clearing her throat, she held up a white hooded bonnet, "I am the Nurse." Setting that item down, she floated to the other side of the stage and held up a black cap with a large feather, "I am Mercutio." Finally, she raised a tall pointed dunce's cap, "I am Romeo, and have I no hat to warm my head, I am Benvolio."

Stuffing the black hat onto her head, she pointed in the general direction of the fan and cried out with a laugh in her voice and a sway in her step,
A sail! A sail!

Tilting her head back so that the hat tumbled to the ground, she snorted,
Two, two. A shirt and a smock.

Swimming at top speed over to the white hood, she dropped it over her head and turned imperiously to the space beside her,
My fan, Peter.

Back to the black hat, which was slightly rumpled from it's fall, stuffing it on over her pigtails, she laughed,
Good Peter, to hide her face; for her fan's the fairer face.
She giggled and rolled her eyes, elbowing the imaginary Benvolio beside her.

Draping the white hood over the black cap, she frowned,
God ye good morrow, gentlemen.
and sweeping it off again, she smirked and sketched an unsteady bow,
God ye good den, gentlewoman.

Holding the hood to frame her face in a gesture of cherubic innocence, she blinked hugely,
Is it good den?
Then dropped it again to swirl as she smirked all the more and motioned with her hips,
'Tis no less, I tell you, for the bawdy hand of the
dial is now upon the p***k of noon.

She was starting to giggle, but she tried to hold it together as she dropped the hood back into place and attempted a scandalized look.
Out upon you! what a man are you!

Here she divested herself of both hats and scrambled to get the dunce's hat into place, trying to look longsuffering and embarrassed.
One, gentlewoman, that God hath made for himself to mar.

This time she pulled the hood laboriously over the dunce's cap, making a very tall pointed hood, and rolled her eyes.
By my troth, it is well said; 'for himself to mar,'
quoth a'? Gentlemen, can any of you tell me where I
may find the young Romeo?

Off came the hood again and the dunce hat just about came off with it, tilting dangerously to one side as she gestured grandly to her self, one hand on her hip, the other at her chest.
I can tell you; but young Romeo will be older when
you have found him than he was when you sought him:
I am the youngest of that name, for fault of a worse.

Tossing the hood carelessly back over her head, she peered forward as if pondering something,
If you be he, sir, I desire some confidence with you.

Nearing the end of her piece, she tossed her head back, sending the hood and cap tumbling, the point of the dunce's cap lodging in the soft felt of Mercutio's black cap with an audible rip. Trying not to wince, Aria continued, attempting to sound licentious.
She will invite him to some supper.

Diving for the black hat, she shoved it on her head, visibly lengthening the hole, and laughed drunkenly,
A bawd, a bawd, a bawd! so ho!

Off came the black hat, and on with the dunce's cap for the final time. Trying to look beleagured when she really just wanted to get off the stage, she continued,
I will follow you.
Motioning with her head that the others were to get out of there before she killed them. Assuming of course, there had been others. Which there weren't. So she was pretty much making motions at thin air, which looked kinda silly. But this play was full of stupid people, so it was okay.

Yanking the black hat on over the dunce's cap had the unfortunate side effect of causing the point of the taller hat to impale the black hat like a donut on a stick. The big black feather snapped at the middle, hanging by a thread right into Aria's face as she slurred:
Farewell, ancient lady; farewell.

Turning and walking off stage singing 'lady, lady, lady' at the top of her lungs, she collapsed into a fit of the giggles just behind the curtain.

Cirru approaches center stage and looks out at the judges. "I'm doing the scene between Mercutio and Romeo as they walk towards the party at the Capulets.I will be playing Mercutio, but please note that I'd like the position of Romeo." He moved to the left of the center and started. "Nay, gentle Romeo,we must have you dance." As he states this he moves to be almost in front of "Romeo"

One of the judges reads Romeo's lines. "A torch for me: let wantons light of heart Tickle the senseless rushes with their heels, For I am proverb'd with a grandsire phrase; I'll be a candle-holder, and look on.
The game was ne'er so fair, and I am done."

Cirru faces the "Romeo" with a questioning look on his face. "Why, may one ask?"

The Judge speaks. "I dream'd a dream to-night."

Cirru raises one eyebrow and tilts his head to the side. "And so did I."

The judge speaks again. "Well, what was yours?"

Cirru snorts and replies. "That dreamers often lie."

The judge replies. "In bed asleep, while they do dream things true."

Cirru is now standing "next to" Romeo, and his face lightens up as if he's making a joke or a point. "O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you.She is the fairies' midwife, and she comes In shape no bigger than an agate-stone On the fore-finger of an alderman, Sometime she gallops o'er a courtier's nose,And then dreams he of smelling out a suit; And sometime comes she with a tithe-pig's tail Tickling a parson's nose as a' lies asleep, *here he starts to look angry* Then dreams, he of another benefice: Sometime she driveth o'er a soldier's neck, And then dreams he of cutting foreign throats, Of breaches, ambuscadoes, Spanish blades, Of healths five-fathom deep; and then anon Drums in his ear, at which he starts and wakes, And being thus frighted swears a prayer or two
And sleeps again. This is that very Mab"

The reply comes from the judge. "Peace, peace, Mercutio, peace! Thou talk'st of nothing."

Cirru's face calms and he has a slight smile. "True, I talk of dreams, Which are the children of an idle brain, Begot of nothing but vain fantasy, Which is as thin of substance as the air And more inconstant than the wind, who wooes Even now the frozen bosom of the north, And, being anger'd, puffs away from thence, Turning his face to the dew-dropping south."

He's quiet for a moment and then bows." Thank you." He states planly and exits stage left.

::She was actually nervous, though the girl wouldn't show it... her head down as she'd run over the lines again in her mind... whispering them under her breath once more before she'd take to the stage. This was not the same Nazirqah, for all to see she could have been a boy or a young man! Dressed in a tunic and leggings, her feet adorned with leather boots and a cap on her head that held a grand flourish of feathers that would attract attention away from her pretty face as well as hide her long hair that she'd pinned up in a bun on the top of her head...

...she stood before the judges, her heart jittering within her breast but that calm fascade didn't drop for an instant as she'd announce....

"My name is Nazirqah, I will be playing both the parts of Benvolio and Mercutio right after the ball, when Romeo had jumped the wall just before the balcony scene... I would rather be Mercutio for this production..." it was very hard for her to say that, very, very hard but she got it out... turning to the side, she'd rest a hand at the mock sword sheathed on her hip...

She'd take a few rushing steps towards the 'wall', her head tilted up as she'd call out in both softness and worried urgency...

As Benvolio, face twisted in concern... "Romeo! My cousin Romeo!..."

She'd turn around, and move off to the side a bit, so as to take on another aspect, her face holding good humour even for her words, speaking for Mercutio... a soft smirk coming to her lips... "He is wise; And, on my lie, hath stolen him home to bed..."

She was fully having a conversation with herself now, as Benvolio her features softened though there was a look of mistrust and disbelif within her dark eyes.... "He ran this way, and leaped this orchard wall: " lifting a finger towards where she would be in a moment... "Call, good Mercutio."

Nazir turned and now as Mercutio the humor still in her eyes and creasing her lips as a hand went to her chest... an expression of 'I've been caught!' lit her features as she'd talk to the space that she'd just occupied... "Nay, I'll conjure too..."

Mercutio turned towards the wall that Romeo had lept over, in a mocking way he'd call out, with none of the concern that Benvolio had show, spreading wide her arms to her sides. "Romeo! Humors! Madman! Passion! Lover!..." a soft chuckle entering his voice... "Appear thou in the lineness of a sigh:" pausing to listen for any sort of answer now, tiling her head and giving it a good measure before continuing.... "Speak but one rhyme, and I am satisfied;" She would then start to act as if her tunic was being tugged upon as she'd call out for Romeo again... "I conjure thee by Rosaline's bright eyes, By her high forehead and her scarlet lip, By her fine foot, straight leg and quivering thigh!" she'd break into muffled laughter that was covered by a hand... Benvolio's hand as she'd switch over, looking very displeased...

Sighing in exasperation and acting as if she were holding on to Mercutio she'd mutter lowly, "Come, he hath hid himself among these trees..." To this, Benvolio would look around as if the phantom of Romeo would suddenly appear and he'd be able to drag him off as easily as he was Mercutio... "To be consorted with the humorous nigh: Blind is his love and best befits the dark...." so low was his voice, now willing to keep the secret too it seemed.... there was one last flip over to Mercutio for Nazirqah...

Her face cracked into a grin as she'd elbow the air where Benvolio's ribs would be...."If love be blind," She'd utter in conspiracy... giving her 'comrade' a wink... just as she'd be nearing the exit of the stage, she'd speak as Mercutio, voice filled with mirth, "love cannot hit the mark."

...she'd left the stage then... and gave herself just a moment's breath before she'd spin on her heel and go back out again.... Bowing to the judges... "Thank you..."

...and then she'd leave the stage once more, this time as herself.::

Once the last contestant left the stage the judges whispered amongt themselves, leaving each teen and child to wait nervously in the wings as they discussed the casting. The minutes past by like slow centuries before at last one judge, one who looked grim holding a parchment in hand. The shadowy figure went to the front of the room, placing the parchment up on the board before speaking.

"We thank all for entering the auditions, the results have been posted. Those that have problems or concerns feel free to talk to us. Until then, everyone is required to know their lines and be ready to perform to the best of their ability. Thank you again."

With that the figure disappeared to leave everyone to scurry to the front to search out their names on the board before at last going to the dressing rooms to prepare and learn their lines.

The lights in the theatre went out, an unseen audience trickling in to find seats in the dark as she curtains curled around the stage in the front. In the back those that listened carefully could hear the sounds of Reliquiants moving and hurrying about to prepare last minute things.

Slowly the lights came up, leaving a shadowy figure standing in the front. A haunting voice came from the figure,
"Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;
Whole misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,
And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend."

With the final word the shadowy figure disappeared, leaving the stage as the curtains opened. No longer was the stage plain to see. Now the set of the fair public streets of Verona sat proud, the lights bright as both waited for the show to at last begin.
