This is a journal for Shiaree to use as she coaxes her Fenthry out of their feathers and has lots of fun adventures with them.

Please don't post here unless Shiaree has given you permission!

Katsuhiko
It looks like having a younger sister to care for has helped Katsuhiko to mature. He's grown quite a bit, now standing at nearly seven inches in height. Though friendly toward the people and fenthries he knows and trusts, it appears that Katsuhiko isn't as open to those he considers strangers.

Cho
The golden feather floats gracefully into the air, as though caught on a soft breath of wind. As it begins to descent, the feather falls into an elegant spiral before being caught in a bright flash of magical light. Where there was once a feather, there is now a pale gold child with spun-gold hair, standing barely four inches tall.
Updates

June 29, 2004-- Won Fenthry feather in auction!
June 30, 2004-- Began investigation of it.
July 02, 2004-- Fenthry comes out of his feather! Yay! Now, to think of a name for him..
July 03, 2004-- Katsuhiko now has a name! ^_^ And I've adopted a little sister for him. She, sadly, does -not- have a name yet, but I'm waiting until I convince her to come out of her feather first.
Later that month-- Cho comes out of her feather and acquires a name. Katsu becomes an adolescent!
Other Fenthry

Katsu has met- Roulette -- He simply adores this little Fenthry! Despite the both of them being really shy, they seemed to hit it off very quickly, and he spent a good bit of time cuddling with her and letting her bathe him. ^_^

Story.

It was dark. Pitch black. They had been wandering around in the caves for quite some time now after L-chan had unexpectedly located the entrance to the mountain.

"Let's call it a night, shall we?" Shiaree suggested,
"I'll take first watch-- I don't have to sleep as long as you do."

Elves in general only needed around six hours of sleep at the most. And those were usually the ones who had to study spells or pray for them in the morning. Shiaree did neither, but relied on the abilities she had gained naturally and from her training instead. She was quite certain the Goddess had forsaken her at this point.

The others agreed eventually, and she helped them settle down for the night. Less than an hour later, her companions were asleep. There was a dull light from the Grimorum, and Shiaree found herself in a strange little shop. A display case in the center held feathers that were apparently for sale, and a sign on top of the case told her the sales procedure.

Panicked, she started to scold the Grimorum over taking her away from her companions. But it assured her, in it's own way, that it was keeping watch over them, and that she would be summoned back immediately if something were to happen where she would be needed or missed.

It also seemed to indicate, though more by feeling than by words as it usually did, that she should pick out one of these feathers to take with her. Not one to say no to the true leader of their expedition-- the one thing that knew more than anything else where they would be headed, she did as asked.

There was a feather for auction. She made a bid. But she couldn't wait around long enough to find out if she had won. The Grimorum put her back the moment one of her companions started to wake.

It wasn't until the next day that she managed to find out the truth about the auction. That she had won. She spent probably the entire watch period talking with some of the other Fenthry (as she had learned they were called) owners, and then was summoned back by the Grimorum in time for her own rest period.

But she had the feather when she returned. Tucked comfortably into her pocket. And she'd been able to see some of her pets while she was journeying as well-- the Grimorum summoned them to the store with her at random points in time.

Still, there was no telling why she needed the Fenthry so much that the Grimorum had sent her there. And they had both arranged for her to spend a day back at her house so that Linali would not get too upset at her absence, though she'd spent most of it studying the Fenthry.
Journal Entry

I have spent today mainly running about accomplishing various menial tasks. Er. That is....taking care of Linali, Cera, Talon, and the various objects and eggs and such that I have recently acquired at various shops and adventures. There really aren't as many as there seem at times.

I suppose it is because the three mentioned are such handfuls. Linali is always teaching Cera new ways to get into trouble..and I can't really hold either of them accountable. It's Covaris who teaches Linali all those bad habits, and so she teaches them to Cera in an unending cycle. And Talon..well, he still hasn't gotten over his habit of biting anyone who comes to near to me.

It took me nearly three hours to get him to accept the Fenthry feather as something that would not threaten himself or me. I think that perhaps he's developing jealousy issues as well. He was my first pet, and now that I've got those others he isn't quite getting as much attention as he used to.

I'll have to make a note to spend some time with just him after I've completed my Meditation on the Telesma and my few hours of trying to convince the poor, scared Fenthry out of his feather.

That's another thing. Any free time I had yesterday was spent attempting to coax the little guy out. I think he's still frightened. I don't really blame him, of course. The girls were quite loud yesterday and he's been through quite a bit.

I'll have to have some one-on-one time with the feather as well tomorrow.

For now, I've got to go avert any major disasters that may or may not be occuring now that the girls have managed to get into the kitchen. Hopefully I'll still be able to make dinner with whatever's left over by the time I get there.

I'm still quite surprised at the amount of time I seem able to leave the group without them knowing. I still don't feel it's right for me to tell them that the Earth Grimorum keeps sending me away when I'm supposed to be on watch.

But the fact of the matter is that it somehow feels that these things will help my Quest somehow. The Telesma and the Fenthry...and keeping my daughter and other pets..children, really, from worrying is always a nice bonus. So I won't complain.

I did manage to get past all the craziness in the kitchen yesterday and make dinner for them all. Linali was particularly pleased. Covaris isn't much of a cook, and Lafiel can burn water-- or so I've heard. So neither of them are really much for making dinner for them.

I'm glad Lafiel has taken to bringing Linali home in the evenings every night. I suppose she has figured out what's going on-- I doubt Linali would bother to keep it a secret.

So many secrets...

The strangest and most wonderful thing happened today! My Fenthry finally decided to come out of his feather...afterwards, I was toting the adorable little guy around to the various shops I visit, and we spotted Sinclaire.

I'm rather glad I found her, too. I hadn't seen much of her since that incident in the Tarot Cybercafe...

At any rate, she had her adorable little Roulette with her, and the two of them really seemed to hit it off. Katsu (I named him Katsuhiko, but he's so cute you have to shorten the name) curled right up with her and they were cuddling just like they were age-old friends.

It was very sweet to watch. I'll have to make sure they see more of each other in the future.
((An OOC note: This takes place before the previous journal entry, but I wanted to get that down. xD. And now I've simply -got- to write this story. I hope you don't mind.))

Shiaree sat with the feather held gently between two fingers. She had managed to convince the various denizens of her house to leave the room, and had been concentrating simply on the feather for around an hour now.

It was a beautiful feather indeed. She didn't know how they had been able to know it was male, but he was a gorgeous male...or would be, if and when he decided to leave the feather. Brushing her fingers gently along the softness of it, she played with the idea that he really was gorgeous already, even in feather form.

But her thoughts were going in circles. Perhaps because she was running out of ideas. How was she to get the little guy out? She had already been nurturing it..him.. for the past couple of days. She'd been quite careful to make sure she treated the feather almost as if it -were- the Fenthry already-- talking to him, offering him food or drink and imagining he refused, carefully tucking it into her pocket as though tucking him into bed.

And wheedling, convincing, encouraging him to come out of his shell.

As she sat there, speaking softly to him once more, the feather seemed to pull out of her hands, floating gently up into the air. There was a bright light, and suddenly there he was. All soft brown fur and blue wings and hair. Absolutely adorable, and looking terrified. Without hesitation, he scrambled for Shiaree's lap, and the elf cuddled him reassuringly,
"There now..it's okay..I'm glad you decided to come out, sweet one," she whispered gently, soothingly.

The little guy still shuddered nervously, and she sighed. This was going to take some time.
Journal Entry

Oh -my-! Katsu has certainly become all the more interesting lately! He and Roulette spent a good deal of time together yesterday at the Fenthry Adoption Society. All curled up and comfy. It was really quite adorable.

I imagine that he's quite taken with her-- as soon as he spotted her..or smelled her, really, he couldn't get out of my arms fast enough. To make matters more interesting in that respect, he hadn't willingly left my arms since he'd come out of his feather.

He seems quite convinced that she's the best friend he's ever going to have, and I certainly don't want to disagree with him. It's positively wonderful the way the two of them have been interacting. I can only imagine how cute it will be once they start walking and acting more independantly.

I worry a little that they might grow apart. That often happens with childhood friends. But their closeness seems so intense that when they're together I can't worry at all and I only see how sweet it is.

It must be nice to have someone you can trust so much.
He curled in her lap, fit there just perfectly. Katsu was quite exhausted after his very long day. The two of them had spent a good deal of time together-- she attempting to get him more comfortable around the rest of her 'children' and Katsu attempting to please her.

The little fenthry did seem to be making some progress. It seemed that his encounters with both Roulette and Prolixity had changed his opinion of the outside world even just a little bit. He had managed to let himself near Cera-- who had been warned to be gentle with him..though he still quite feared Akiiki.

It wasn't really that the sphynx was intimidating or anything. More that he just didn't seem to realize how frightened Katsu was and continually neglected to take any sort of caution in approaching him. He was much too rough, though he didn't seem to want to -be- rough. Instincts could be a hazard sometimes.

Gently, she stroked the little fenthry's head as he dozed. But her thoughts weren't quite on Katsuhiko. Indeed, she had taken to wondering just a little bit about the new fenthry feather she was keeping in her hair. Since Katsuhiko now loved her hair, she had no doubts that it was a safe place for the beautiful yellow feather she had recently adopted at the Preservation Society.

But what, she wondered, would it be like? It was female, she had been told. And she'd felt a bit more response as she tried to coerce this one out of her feather than she had from Katsu. Perhaps she wasn't quite so afraid as her 'brother' had been. That would be rather nice...she had enough difficulties working with Katsu as well as teaching Cera and Boyue.
Journal Entry:

I have finally convinced my second fenthry out of her feather! Oh, and she's so beautiful! And absolutely gorgeous little girl with pastel yellow colouring and the most beautiful little smile!

I know it's cliche, but she's an absolute ray of sunshine. She's still sleepy from the effort involved in getting out of her feather, but I can tell she's going to be the sweetest little thing once she's recovered. Not that she isn't now. But I think she'll be quite a bit more energetic, at the very least.

Katsu has taken very well to being a big brother. The moment she came out of her feather he scooted her right on over to him and started giving her a bath. I can only assume that he also started versing her on the world she had come to live in, because she doesn't seem nearly as frightened or unprepared as he did.
Katsuhiko lie on the floor, tail in the air and nose on the ground as he peered at the little yellow fenthry in front of him. She'd been there for a couple of days already, but he still couldn't get over the newness of her.

She peered back at him, eyes wide open and a little bit of a giggle on her tiny lips, though she made no sound. Just like her big brother, the little one hadn't taken up talking yet.

Daring a step forward, he slinked across the floor a bit, and licked the girl's forehead. Delighted, of course, the little one pounced him and the two were rolling.

Shiaree smiled. It was nice seeing Katsu break out of his shell, though she could tell the Fenthry still missed Roulette terribly. At least once per day he'd sit at the window and peer mournfully out of it as though hoping she'd show up.

Soon, she'd have to take the little guy to see her again.
